Don't let the fence hit you on the way out....

We already know my inability to watch were I'm walking, so there's no need to rehash my face plant that landed a brick pillar, but now I'm questioning my backing skills.

We were leaving Granny's house Sunday night. Said our goodbyes, gave everyone hugs and just as we were approaching the door, the Aunt asked if we could bring in her newspaper when we come by to feed the horses in the morning. No use putting off tomorrow what can be done today, so we went to retrieve the paper.

I was driving. I drove down the long driveway to the paper box by the road, the husband got out and grabbed the paper. Instead of turning around I decided to back up. I put the car in reverse, looked over my shoulder and started backing down the driveway towards the house.

As far as I could tell I was going straight until the husband said, "What are you going to do, hit the fence?"
Sure enough I looked to the left and saw I was headed straight for the horse fence. Naturally I slammed on the breaks and slid just a fraction of an inch from the post/fence.

I mean, if I hit anything I would have felt a bump... right?  With my near miss I smirked at the husband and gave him my best Don Adams (Get Smart) or better yet, Steve Carrel interpretation and said, "I missed it by that much" showing him my fingers of how close I came.

The husband wasn't convinced or amused. He looked at the car and didn't really see any damage after all, it was dark. What he did see was the tire marks in the snow going directly into the fence.

It wasn't until the next day, I looked at my car in the daylight and saw some minor scratches by the rear wheel fenders.

My three year old car has not a single scratch...... until now. The worst part, before you feel too sorry for me, is I have a back up camera that shows where I am going, with little arrows and everything. Had I been looking at the camera instead over my shoulder, I would have seen the fence line and steered clear.

Ouch! My poor baby!

Go ahead, you can judge me.

I'm always doing stuff like that! So glad you share your mishaps with us all.

BTW, I love the new look of your blog! It is a little hard to read the text, though, b/c the background is not white but is a pattern. You probably knew that! Sorry if I'm being repetitive and annoying!

Heh, heh. Looks like we both have intense backing-up skills . . . http://simple-and-elegant.blogspot.com/2010/12/unhappy-moments.html. You're poor car! Glad it wasn't any worse though! :)

Ouch! I have a back up camera on my car too. Surprisingly it doesn't help me either. Some people like driving, not me.

Not judging :)

My bestie has a new car with the camera system. I drove it for her a few weeks ago and when I returned, she asked how I liked the system. Silly me, I hadn't even noticed! Despite backing out of her drive way. My drive way. Etc.... Oops. Silly old observant me!

No trouble reading the blog on my end, fyi.

You're making me feel better, Saimi! I had a fender bender (my fault) in September. Just yesterday, I signed up for driving school so I can keep the points from the ticket off my license. So, my friend, it could have been worse! ;0)

(says the girl who had similar scratches from hitting her very own garage)

OH NO!!! (AHHH!!) You and I would be dangerous together. A few years ago, I "missed" my garage door as I backed my car out of the garage. I "missed" it so much that Katie confirmed, "Mom, did you just hit the garage?" ummmmm . . . I guess it was the hanging side mirror that gave it away. ;)

Sorry about your car!

LOL Ok, I shouldn't laugh, but I do stuff like that. I have a dent on my minivan from backing up and hitting the garbage can. Nice, huh?
We just need to brush up on our reverse skills, that's all. :) :)
BTW, Love the festive look on your blog. It just looks so Christmasy.

oh, nice job. now you won't be worrying about that first scratch. It's over. I hate it when I do those kind of things. I've got a nick in my car's trunk (with a back up camera I did not use) when I "bumped" the garage door. I used black finger nail polish to fix it.

Dang! I almost scraped my car on my husband's truck last night. I blamed it on him for parking stupid.

Sorry about that That's a bummer.
My car is so old and there is a ton of little nicks.

Aww, the first scratches are the worst, but my dad (a former Mini Cooper owner) always said to look at them as battle scars, each one with a story to tell.

OUCH is right. Don't you just hate it when that happens?
