"A black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. Because no light can get out, people can't see black holes. They are invisible. Space telescopes with special tools can help find black holes. "
I believe that space is called the laundry room. How else do you explain the disappearance of socks and other various laundry items? Think about it, it's invisible and matter is being squeezed into a tiny space. Naturally this has to be the explanation of why parts of the laundry keep vanishing. Now perhaps if every laundry room was equipped with a Space telescope and it's special tools it's likely you'll be able to see the mysterious black hole and, with any luck, recover the missing items.
Then, as luck would have it and through sheer accidental discovery, I found there was never a black hole in my laundry room after all. What I discovered was my washing machine was eating and digesting parts of the laundry.
As I was cleaning the rubber seal of my washer, I peeled it back to wipe the underside and found a slimy disgusting black sock as well as a missing key to our car and some loose change resting in the cavity of the rim. The sock was beyond recognition. It looked as if it has been sitting in the stomach of a beast who's intestine is that of a murky algae infested swamp.
I washed the key and the change but the sock found it's burial at the bottom of the trash.
Eureka!! Mystery solved!
Seriously, who woulda thought?
I will certainly pay closer attention when transferring laundry from the washer to the dryer and if anything comes up missing, I now know where to look.

So that's where it goes!!!! Gosh- I'm kind of scared to look there now. Think I'll get my hubby to do those honors~
Saimi, you are so funny...Thanks for solving this great mystery that has been plaguing nations all over the world. At least this sock was recovered before disintegration. RIP poor old sock... lol...
I have an extra large front loader washer and sometimes the little items get stuck in between the rubber seal and the drum.
Thanks for sharing this with us who have been wondering all this time.
Hugs,
