We tried our hand, er app, using the Uber method of getting to and from the airport when we were in San Diego.
Whenever we travel with our sons, they would always arrange the transportation using their Uber app on their phones.
Its the new thing these days.
Well this time there were no sons to help us in the Uber department but the husband had the app so we gave it a try.
We arrived in San Diego late, late on Valentines night and since we weren't familiar with Uber and didn't have the time to fiddle around with the app, we went ahead and took a taxi to the beach cottage.
Fast forward five days and after a fun filled anniversary vacation the husband decided to utilize the Uber app on his phone to arrange our ride back to the airport.
The Uber driver showed up prompt and on time but the car he drove was this tiny little thing only big enough for four people not including luggage.
We travel light, me with one suitcase and the husband with a small bag and...well....his bike, which posed a problem with this small car.
His bike case didn't fit, it didn't even make it into the back with the seats folded down. Its an odd size and that was a small car.
The Uber guy said you can choose the size of car you want on the app, I guess theres an option but not being familiar with how to use the app, we missed that important tid bit of information.
Since he wasn't needed, he drove off leaving us stranded on the curb with a plane to catch.
Being a bit frustrated and a little anxious I went ahead and called a taxi.
I can't even remember the taxi service we used but a lady answered the phone and in her broken english she asked how many people will be in the taxi.
I informed her there was two of us, each with a bag and one oversized piece of luggage so we will need a bigger size car.
"But how many people, you say?"
"Two. We also have an over sized luggage case so we will need a big car."
"You have two people?"
"Yes."
"Ok, the driver be there in 7 minutes." Click, and she was gone.
She was right with the time, the taxi driver showed up in 7 minutes just like she said, but she didn't get the part about needing a big car.
He was driving a Toyota Prius.
The husband and I glanced at each other with the same thought in mind, here we go again.
With the back seats down, he was able to fit the husbands bike carrier and our luggage which was a good thing, except for the one minor problem, there was no room for a third person to sit.
Having to get to the airport we had no time to figure out another means of transportation so the husband wedged himself in the back with the bike carrier and luggage and off we went.
As we were unloading I felt like a circus act. You know the one where there is a small car and a million clowns keep coming out, but in our case it was the husband, luggage and one oversized bike carrier.
We learned our lesson.
With our upcoming family vacation in April the husband went old school and rented a large van.
It will be waiting for us at the airport.

Some day you will laugh hard at this - I think this story is precious.
That was quite the experience especially when you have a flight to catch with security and long line up. I'm old school too and don't fit well with today's digital world.
Hugs, Julia
Hi Saimi~
Funny!! I'm old school too, I just don't think I would truste an app, or an Ubber driver...I've heard too many scary stories, although I know someone here who drives one...eeekkkk! A large van sounds perfect!
Hugs and Love,

I went through the time machine and saw Archie as a baby in 2010 and read about him eating in the garage, so much fun. he is adorable. my hubby's dad raised hunting beagles for all the years hubby grew up. todays story is HILARIOUS.. love every word. we don't travel and have never used a taxi or uber, but i can see it is not as easy as it looks on TV and in the movies. this is my first ever viewing of a bike carrier. did not know they existed either. Learning from blogs is so much fun
What a day!
I am old school too...
I would have to ask my kids how to do anything involved with uber!!!!
Have a cozy day.
Cold here!!!
I used Uber to take me to the hospital for minor surgery and picked me up after..SO much better than begging someone for a ride...Both small cars BTW..
Hi there! Thanks for commenting on my blog. I had to smile about the "circus act!" I get so nervous about new things, especially when it comes to technology. I do try though. Haven't tried UBER yet. Where are you going in April?
Cindy
Sorry you had a bad Uber experience. Most of the people I know who have tried Uber have had a bad experience.
