In years past, a lot of past years to be exact, our family would traditionally go on a Father's Day hike. It's always in the same place just past our home in a desert canyon.
It's the husbands biking playground with trails galore. As the canyon winds down closer to the water the sage is overcome with greenery.
Brush and branches grow wild over the trails making it difficult for a biker to maneuver without getting bushwhacked.
Thus the Father's day hike was born. The husband would gather his family and a hedge trimmer and we would set off across the desert along the dusty trail to trim the overgrown brush.
It's been awhile since we have gathered together for the annual hike as the boys are grown and gone.
Our youngest son came to town this year to spend Father's day with his dad. He even mentioned about going on the hike.
Well let me just say, that was music to his ears. The husband grabbed his trimmer and off we went.
As we approached trails that were in need of trimming the husband would fire up his trimmer.
Our son kept a close eye on his dad and I kept a close eye on Oskar.
Oskar spotted the river, a little oasis in the desert which provided a nice drinking spot for him.
We didn't wait for the guys as the dog was ready for his drink. Easy for him, he was low enough from the ground not to get whacked by the branches but on we went because well, it was all about the water.
I could hear the boys trimming away and was happy the next time the husband was going to ride these trails he would have a nice clear path.
Once down by the river, Oskar and I waited for them. When they caught up to us we walked along the bottom of the canyon until we found another trail that took us back up.
We worked up a powerful hunger with our 6 mile hike so once we were home we had a filling dinner then settled in for the evening.
Our son left in the morning and although it was a fast weekend, the sacrifice George made to drive the distance so he could spend not only time with his father but to keep the family tradition alive, was truly special and thoughtful.
The husband is an amazing dad who loves and supports the boys in all they do and it truly warms my heart to see the love reciprocated by them.

I love this post, my friend.
What an awesome gift your son shared with your husband (and you) on Father's Day!
Beautiful photos too!
Love seeing you here!!!
Hope you are enjoying your week. : )
handsome duo you went hiking with, and I love the view looking down at the creek. what a wonderful fathers day tradition.
My Daughter is 26. She lives on her own. She will too come home for occasions and spend time with us. I hate it when she leaves the next morning.
I love seeing dads and sons working together. This will be a tradition never forgotten.
Cute post
