Dixie graduated to a carriage.

Boarding school has been going well these last couple of months, 48 days to be exact but who's counting?

Dixie went from learning ground work to ground driving, dragging a tire and as of yesterday, pulling a carriage.

The husband and I went over on Saturday as well as today to help with not just with Dixie, but their three year old Friesian gelding Egon.

Dixie and Egon spent their first two and half years together and now here they are, training as three year olds.
It was a big day for the both of them and although they waited patiently wondering what the excitement was all about, it was Egon who drew the short straw.

Going from dragging a tire to pulling a carriage was quite a change. They both were a bit jumpy and unsure of the movement behind them but it was something else to watch Egon.

He approached his training session with a big bold attitude, but to no avail, his antics didn't work and he finally settled down.

Dixie was up next.

As she was being harnessed I found it endearing so see her snuggled into the husband arms. Dixie is so sweet and I'm sure after watching Egon she was a bit nervous for her turn.
She kinda reminded me of a rabbit darting from side to side and acting jumpy but by the end of the session she relaxed and calmed down.

Today was their second day and they both showed great improvement. The trainer took them through a set of obstacles weaving in and around and I gotta say, it was such a joy to watch Dixie.

She kept her head low and arched and her movement was much smoother.
There were even a few young spectators along the fence line showing interest in what their future has in store for them.
After Dixie becomes more confident and at ease and I have a few driving lessons under my belt, I'll take over her reins.

Kinda scary in an exciting sort of way but as Aladdin sings enthusiastically,

A whole new world, a whole new world
That's where we'll be, that where we'll be
A thrilling chase, a wondrous place
for you and me.

That snuggle melted my heart too. There's a bonding taking place. Dixie looks so elegant as she pulls the carriage. You are so lucky.
Stay safe and well.
Hugs, Julia

Such beautiful horses. My sister trained one of her horses to pull a carriage a lot like yours and it was amazing to watch the process. I remember her being in our local parade once! Congratulations on your success!

Sorry, but I love the pictures of the antics! What a beautiful horse. I love black, so regal!

Looks like a lot of work, but fun.
