It's an important job I'm sure because with our local hospital we have these rules that only so many visitors can be in a room at the same time and those with children, have to wait until the late afternoon to see their loved ones or friends.
Now there is a way to get past Check Point Charlie. Instead of stopping by the desk you turn towards the cafeteria like you're going to eat or something then as you round the corner you make a bee line to the elevators used mostly for patients and doctors.
I confess. I have slipped past Check Point Charlie a time or two, but the other day I decided to be a rule follower and log in with Mr. Security Guard.
I gave him the name of the friend I was visiting, and he asked for mine.
Me: "I'm here to see .........I believe she's in room......."
Check Point Charlie: "Your name please"
Me: "Saimi." (Pronounced sigh-me)
Then I spelled in for him: "S A I M I"
Check Point Charlie lifts his head and looks at me then back down at his paper. He makes a ‘hmm’ sound as he writes my name down.
This is not an uncommon reaction to my name. I usually get 'hmmed' along with, "Oh that's an unusual name." Or, "That sure is different." Or, "I've never heard of that name before."
Not with Check Point Charlie, no siree. He hmms me then looks up and says. "It doesn't fit you."
I'm thinking to myself: "You say this because you know me...HOW?"
In our whole 3 second conversation he has me summed up and, apparently thinks a different name would be more fitting...Amazing! I told you this was an important job.
So, if my Grandmothers name doesn't fit me, I ask you please...... what would?

Well now isn't that rude!
I had no idea it was pronounced like that and I think it is incredibly unique and beautiful! Thanks for clearing that up, because I've always thought of you as SAM~ME.
Really? Geh, some people.
I love how your name is so unique! I think it suits you perfectly!
I'm glad we don't have a Checkpoint Charlie for many reasons! Wow, what a rude guy!
How rude! It's cool that you have your grandmother's name :-)
Your name is perfect for you but if I didn't know you then I would probably say your name is Sandy. You look like Olivia Newton John when she was in Grease, so to me you look like a Sandy.
I think your name is beautiful! I'm glad I know how to say it correctly now too!
LOL I think I would go the cafeteria way from now on! And your name is beautiful and he is a odd man indeed! ;D
I can't imagine you as anything other than Saimi... but just for fun, go back tomorrow and check in with Charlie again... only this time tell him your name is Genevieve and see what he says.
You're so effing cute! You totally suit the name Saimi. And someone named Check Point Charlie shouldn't be throwing any stones.
That pic of you is adorable!! I agree with TisforTonya. That's a funny idea!
I think you totally rock your name. When I was in school, there were always a bazillion Amys. I like my name too (usually. Sometimes I wish it were something cooler like Arwen or Gabrielle or Captain Sparrow.) but it would be nice to be something a little more unique!
Sounds like next time take the cafeteria route. And I don't know when I last visited someone in the hospital, but I don't think ours is quite so tough.
I must admit I did not think your name was pronounced that way :)
I like the name Saimi - I think it suits you perfectly!
Wow, he sounds like a wonderful guy, with his special intuitive naming skills and all...thank goodness he doesn't work on the maternity floor. He'd be swamped with all the great advice he'd have to give on naming the newborns.
I like the way you pronounce your name!
I didn't know your name was pronounced that way, either! I love it.
thx for the pronunciation exercise on your name, I have wondered how to say it. People dont get my name either, I usually get called Delia, the i gets misplaced. Then I have to say, its Deila like Sheila. But no one has said my name doesnt suit me. our hospitals let anyone in, anytime, I guess that's kind of bad. But for babies and moms, they lock it and must buzz you in. so no getting out with more than your purse.
LOL that is Hilarious, Now I know who to ask for next time I have a baby, He will give the baby a suitable name. If it were me, that guy would have ended up with an unsuitable face. I like your name!
Hahaha, what a weirdo. My son's name is Stone ( his Grandpa's name) and people always make weird comments about it.
He should have given a name he thought would suit you since he had you figured out in 3 min. I like names that don't fit the norm or hear very often. I like your name.
Oh really? Love those snap judgment people, ha ha! I think you look lovely as a sigh-me!
Silly rude little man..sigh...
You, and your name, are absolutely lovely! Perfectly suited to each other.
xoxoox
Yeah maybe he was a little abrupt but I think he was probably just trying to be conversational. I assume he does not get as much interaction as you might think? I too did not know how your name was pronounced though I probably should have. I like any name that is unusual but it is REALLY a bonus that you carry on a family name. Anyway, your bloggy friends like YOU just the way you are so no worries! W.C.C.
