The Grandmother clock

When Grandma and the Aunt moved from Alaska to live closer to us I decided how great it would be to spend my lunch break with them since they live just minutes from where I work.

Three days a week, after putting the preschoolers on the bus, I would gather my purse and keys then head over to Granny's house.

I never paid any attention to the time as I was leaving or how long it took to me to arrive... until the day I was a few minutes late.

I walked into their house with a smile and big hello only to hear Granny tell me I'm late. Late? What do you mean I'm late?

Granny would look at her watch and inform me I should have been there minutes ago. First off, the woman claims she can't see, so how in the heck can she tell by looking at her watch that I'm late?

She's a curious one that Granny.

Second of all I had no idea I was being timed. I mean, come on Grandma cut me some slack, I could have been stuck behind a big semi truck, or farm tractor or better yet the kids bus was running behind.

She's not one to be reckoned with. My time is her time when it comes to her daily routine. I can't help myself and tease her anyway about being the keeper of the time. Her reply is, "Well, don't you know your loved?"

So I continue my weekly routine of spending lunch with Granny and the Aunt but now I'm very conscientious of when I leave the building and the trucks I might encounter. One day, I guess I was more than a few minutes late and she made sure to tell me that the school is going to start owing her some time.

"Granny, isn't that pretty harsh?" I tell her in a teasing way. She just giggles and says, "Well."

A particular afternoon she was being pretty ornery. As I was leaving I told her she better start being nice, especially to the Aunt who is recovering from back surgery.

Granny smiles and replies, "I'm always nice to her, it's you I tangle with."

The Aunt and Granny Girl
Did I mention she's 95?

I think that you have to be that sassy to live that long. My great-grandmother just passed last year at nearly 100 and she sure was fun! You're so lucky to be able to visit her so often.

My GG was 102 when she passed away! I still remember how her house always smelled like coffee.

You are right, I don't comment online anymore. I'm always one handed and get frustrated with my slow typing. I mean, I barely even blog anymore.

Anyway, grandma sounds feisty! I love it.

People over 90 have license to be ornery. My Grandpa is one of them too. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it makes you grit your teeth.

It is so good of you to go visit her as often as you do. I know from experience that it can sometimes take a lot of patience to hang out with our beloved elderly relatives.

Oh, sweet granny! I'm LOVING this post, my dear!! (And so sorry for being MIA - I have no excuse - only apologies to offer! But I do think of you often and wonder how your summer is starting off!! And I thank you SO MUCH for your comments, as they always warm my heart!) Now, back to the Granny . . . sounds like she is dishing out what she knows YOU can take. And I like that. 95? God Bless her, dear. God Bless her!

I love snarky but sweet old ladies. Granny sounds like one of the best of them. You better get on her good side.

Too stinkin' cute. None of my grandparents live that close. But, we have a sort of adopted grandma who lives in town. I love her. And she can be pretty sassy and spicy herself. Haha!

Oh! She is a darling! I love it.
Sounds like she'll keep you in line. It might be difficult, but I think she'll be able to do it.

Wish I had some time with my granny before she passed way.

You are so blessed to have that time to rumble with her. To think the complaint is over time! LOL...
