The Hills are Alive

Between rainstorms, the husband and I have been putting some miles on the horses, especially over Memorial Day weekend. We stayed close to home and rode on the hillside covered in sage bush. Usually that's all you can find here in the desert but with all the rain we've been having, the hills have come alive and wild flowers are blooming and staying in bloom longer than usual.

Among the beautiful flowers growing on the reservation we also came across the sacred dumping ground. I know this to be true because after reading the sign I know not just anybody can dump their junk. I mean seriously with a $5,000.00 fine and all.

We also came to the great waters. It takes a very skilled horse indeed to cross such a river uh, creek.

My beauty had to play paw and play before crossing. As for the husbands horse, he crossed without hesitation...well, after taking a drink of course.

We had to watch our step because you never knew what could be lurking, or should I say slithering in the dust.
Luckily this guy didn't have a rattle.

After riding around the hillside there's nothing like a little snack to help make it the rest of the way home. How could we deny the horses such tasty treats when they're coming from sweet little hands.

Oh, I love this, wish I was on that horse.

Thanks for your comment about blogging--Yes, I did save the email letters to my sons, those are in a notebook somewhere, I feel a little disorganized. But, lately I have done more blogging than keeping my journal.

Wow, your son is coming home. What city and area of Mexico is he in? My husband is down there again. He is in the state of Sonora mostly, but has to pick up his partner in Ensanaada all the time. He drives there from CA. I am anxious for the funding to come through, just keeping it together barely. I try not to panic. But he loves the people. He is working on a waste to electric power project for Nogales, Sonora.

I love the title of your post. Such a wonderful way to spend a day. Wow about that fine, $5,000 that is a serious, no dumping sign.

Oh what fun! I am sure glad that snake was not a rattle snake, I am sure the horses were too. It looks like you had a perfect weekend.

(still have to post anonymously, google isn't recognizing my accout yet, grrrr!)

Looks like you had a wonderful time!! I love riding - especially in the Spring when everything is blooming!

I had a horse one time that hated water, she would practically sit down to jump over a puddle! Of course, you can imagine where I would end up most of the time . . . looking up at her!

What a fun way spend Memorial Day!!

Hugs,
Barb

That looked like it must have been a wonderful day. We have 3 of our horses out being broke right now, won't get them back until July.
We just have the quarter horse right now.

My favorite shot is your stunning smile while the horse plays in the water ... my least favorite is the snake - still would have given me the willies! W.C.C.

I haven't been riding in forever. This makes me want to go badly. WE have a cabin near Yellowstone. I'll have to go this year.

I really need to come to your blog more often. Checkpoint Charlie sounds like a bit of a character. The little boy who would make a good teacher is cute. I don't really love fish -- either as pets or to eat. In fact I don't like them either way and so I'm proud of you for sticking with yours so long. And finally, I'm really glad that I don't run into any snakes like the one in your picture but otherwise the pictures of your ride looked like fun. I think Saimi suits you perfectly and I know you at least as well as Check Point Charlie! Have a happy day!

I had to laugh at your horse pawing the water because my horse does the same thing! I think he would lay down and roll in it if I let him! ;D

So jealous! I mean, except for the snake part. But your beauty playing in the water? How fun!

(Mine will jump a creek at the narrowest part - EVERY TIME).

Loving the little treat from the cuties!

Oh, wow!! Seriously . . . the fact that you have these ponies (ok, horsies) and ride them in the beautiful areas (minus the dumping), I'm in awe. You know, I think I have only ridden a horse once in my life. Can you believe it? I think it's about time I head out west and visit my dear blog friend!!!!
