Coming out of my Zumba class the other night I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the sky looked. It was purple and pink with a huge full moon shining bright for all it's worth. It actually took my breath away, OK I was already out of breath from exercising but that's beside the point, the moon was spectacular.
Since I'm a firm believer a full moon has a mystical affect on living creatures, I couldn't help but think of the preschoolers. It was a day I didn't work but know from past experience, and could only imagine, what kind of day the staff must have had with those little bodies doing crazy things. It actually made me smile.
I smiled all the way to where our horses are kept so I can tuck them in for the night and give them their much wanted dinner. They love feeding time and don't miss the opportunity to strut their stuff letting me know how starving they are.
You should have seen my horses. The moon definitely was working its magic on those animals. They couldn't have cared less about dinner. They were running around bucking and kicking their heels, tossing their heads and racing each other in the pasture. The hay was in the feeder but the horses ran circles around it snorting and splashing mud all over the place, and them. Again, It made me smile.
Walking into work, the girls were filling me in on the crazy time they had with the preschoolers the day before. The day the moon was rising. They told me all about how wild the kids were and how they were doing things that were out of character with their personalities. They couldn't figure what got into them.
As I looked at my bewildered comrades, all I could do was smile....

We say the same thing at my school when kids start acting like that- "The moon must be full!"
It was good you got to see the beautiful aspects of it, too-
It does have a strange affect on us. I never guessed it would do the same to horses.
So it's not just wolves that are driven mad by the moon :-)
You have beautiful writing skills....I lost myself in your words. I felt like I was there seeing what you saw. I think that it is cool that you took the time to notice the moon and how it effected your horses. Sometimes, I get in such a hurry that I don't pay attention to details like that. Nice!
My coworker asked if it was a full moon, yesterday, because all of his clients were blowing up! I had no idea it actually was!
Just ask any nurse or doctor that works in the emergency room, they will validate your theory too.
I wonder if I can blame my 'cranky' days on the full moon too? I am going with it!!!!
Not only the emergency room but labor and delivery. The Maternity ward routinely staffs up and stocks up for the full moon.
Wish I could have been there to see your horses play. Looney
Siami, you are so observant.
Of course the full moon has effects on all living thing and even the tides. I love walking in the full moon with snow on the ground. It's so very romantic, especially if you have someone to hold hands with on such an occasion.
Two things that will stir up kids, the full moon and a bag of candies.
It would have been extra special to have the horses on video while they're acting up. JB
I have always thought the moon was a bit magical.
This morning it was very very low on the horizon in the west as the sun was rising and it was HUGE!! Really cool
ahhh.."Bad Moon Rising"
wasn't that a song from the 70's.
seems like a full moon affects many things, in strange and mysterious ways.
Is that why my girls were so...to be completely blunt...awful today?!?! I've heard people say things like this before - even in one of the preschools I worked at before (though I can't remember who it was now). The moon looked so awesome last night, hanging low and large over the Puget Sound. I wanted to kick myself for not having my camera with me.
I loved the movie Moonstruck! So funny and they do act so silly all because of the moon.
Sandy
Note for you: take the day off whenever there is a full moon :)
I avoid work on full moon days. Always!
(if I can get away with it)
You paint a beautiful picture here. I have always wanted horses. Such amazing animals. Preschoolers I've had. :)
I get crazy when the moon is full too. Doesn't everybody?
I love that you are a bit superstitious. I am VERY superstitious. It's almost crippling. :)
I always hear teachers talking about the effects of the moon, so I guess it must be true! If you say it is true, then I'm definitely believing it now.
Yea, that moon, it does have some control over us, we're like the ocean, under it's pull. I would love to have those horses to feed!
I love ho9w descriptive this was. Nicely done.

I believe that the full moon really does have an effect on children... and some adults. Along with the barometric pressure. It is like something has taken over their brains and is thinking for them. Telling them to make poor choices.
Glad you took a moment to enjoy the moon and catch your breath. Love Zumba!!!
