This ain't Kansas anymore....

"The wind began to switch / The house, to pitch / And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch..."  words to a  song Dorothy sang in the 1969 Wizard of Oz movie. Now if Judy Garland was still singing she would change the word 'house' to 'barn'.

You see with the gale force winds we've been having, Dorothy would have wanted to honor our barn, you know since it reminded her of Auntie Em's beloved farm house which was lifted away by a tornado.

Our barn, a simple canvas Costco shed with metal poles, flew through the air a quarter of a mile down the road crossing three pastures and landing on the roof of another barn. It blew me away, literally.

I went to feed our horses and saw our hay stack standing alone uncovered. My first thought was it probably blew away but since there wasn't any sign of it in the vicinity, I figured the husband took it down as a precaution.

I called the farm boy to confirm my presumption but he actually did nothing of the sort. He decided to come down and help investigate our missing barn.

The wind storm actually lifted our humble hay covering, leaving only the stakes in the ground, and carried it away like a parachute or hot air balloon dropping the metal poles in nearby pastures before landing on the roof of a neighbors barn.

It was torn, battered and in shambles as we gathered it and tossed it in the husbands truck.

I really believe Dorothy would have wanted her song to go as follows:

"Dorothy: It really was no miracle. What happened was just this...
Dorothy: [singing] The wind began to switch / The barn, to pitch / And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch / It flew through the air without a glitch /
Munchkin: And, oh, what happened then was rich!
Munchkins: [singing] The barn began to twitch / The poles took a slich / It landed on another barn, oh what a pitch/

So we may not be in Kansas but if that barn roof didn't stop our barn from finishing it's flight, it would be on it's way to OZ right about now.

This wind has been really crazy. Good thing you were able to find it and nothing was hurt. Are you able to use it anymore?

We've been having some fierce wind, too. Glad no one was hurt in yours.

Wind can be a powerful thing. I was in your neck of the woods last weekend,(Feb. 18-19)and also the Tri Cities area and the wind was pretty fierce then too. As we were going through your Y town I thought of you and wondered where you lived.

Mystery solved, but ouch. Those aren't exactly inexpensive. We had one for our boat storage when we had the 1972 green sparkly boat. We switched to a pontoon boat and gave away our storage barn to a family member who needed it for hay storage. I always wondered if you could order just the covers because the summer sun really aged them to the point where they would shred easily in the wind.

Glad there was no serious damage. Take care.

I am glad that you didn't have any serious damage. However, that still sounds expensive. I am sorry. My hubby would have been swearing; I probably would have too. :)

We've had some serious breezes around here too.

Did you find it?

Oh no! Well, it seems to be windy this year everywhere. We had a trampoline blow over our house once! (OK, I will try to prove that I am not a robot now! ;)

Oh darlin' I'm soooo sorry!!! I know here on the Ponderosa we've fallen victim to tornadoes more than once (too many times). Those straight line gale force winds can be just as destructive.

God bless and have yourself a 'safe' Oz free day sweetie!!! :o)

Now I have that song stuck in my head. Thanks A LOT! ;) I actually love that song!

I can't believe your barn blew away. What a trip! (no pun intended)

Oh My...sounds like the winds around here where I live.
Last November we had winds so forceful that some metal and wood structured barns went down.
With a Huff and a Puff
(different story...and I don't think there was any singing in that one)
