The Fruits of my Labor

The doctor confirmed what they already knew. After three different home pregnancy tests my son and daughter in law, who have been trying for a year to conceive, are going to be parents.

I text my son the day of her appointment: "Soooooooo what did the doctor say?? Do we know what she's having yet, I have quilts to make! HA!

My confused son called back: "Mom, what do you mean, do we know what she's having?" It's the size of a peanut."

Me: "Didn't you get the HA part, I was kidding."

Son: "Oh, well you should have said LOL or JK."

Me: "I thought HA would have been a good clue."

Son: "Haha would have been better."

Me: "Then what did you think HA meant? I was coughing?"

I continued our conversation: "And just for the record, I want to be called Grandma, not Nana, Meema, Oma, GG or any other type of nick name I just want to be Grandma."

My impressed son: "Wow mom, sounds like you're adjusting to being a Grandma quickly."

Me: "Of course I am, I've been ready to be a Grandma since the day you we're born, don't you know it's the reason we have kids?"

I'm figuring nine months is plenty of time to find employment closer to our neck of the woods, what do you think?

Congratulations Grandma! I fought it because I became one at 38 (i.e.step kids). But the second my granddaughter was born, the word "Grandma" wasn't so bad.

btw - Being a Grandma means you get to have all of the fun. You get to spoil them, play with them and then send them home when they are tired or have tantrums. Ha ha.

This is too funny, at least you are... texting and I still never text yet. I call on my cell. They use a different shorthand.

Congratulations. You have nine months to prepare and you can make your quilt gender neutral.

Wonderful!

And yes. "Grandma" is best. Although, honestly, you just don't know how the little buggers are going to pronounce it!

Congratulations, Grandma!

By all means, finding employment close to grandparents is a MUST! Do they realize all the free babysitting they could get out of you?

Congrats!!! There is nothing quite like becoming a grandma. So excited for you!

Wow - CONGRATS!!! I do think you're ready except just because Grand kids and Ponies can both be rambunctious, you must care for them a bit differently ... at least until they turn two years old or so and then you can feed 'em both Cheerios and turn 'em loose in a field to wear them out! W.C.C.

I am so excited for you to be a grandma! Congratulations to you all. How exciting!!!
Hope they get to move close, but hey they are closer than my girl's grandparents. Nothing that a car or plane ride wont fix several times during the year.
