The Grandma Gods

They sit up there, with clipboard in hand, watching your every move as a young parent. They examine, scrutinize and document while you practice your parenting skills on your children.

 Are you baking, kissing owies, demonstrating patience, counseling, listening, cooking, hugging, smiling, leaving cookies for Santa, teeth for the Tooth Fairy, dying Easter eggs, cleaning puke,changing diapers, and everything else that comes with being a parent?

That's right, they're called the Grandma Gods and they don't miss a beat.

 There's a reason you know, a reason they watch you so closely, a reason why you practice for what seems like an eternity raising children.

They want to make sure you qualify for the title Grand. A title you can someday put in front of your already tattered, run through the ringer parent of a name.

Haven't you wondered why your Grandma's pies were always the best, why their cookies never burn, how they give the best counsel, make mouthwatering meals and have the patience of Job?

I'm telling ya, it's because they were young practicing parents once. They've suffered long and hard, ruined plenty of dinners, burnt their baked goods, gave up the best years of their life, pushed themselves beyond exhaustion and made plenty of mistakes.

Grandma training is not for wimps, it's hard but the end result is worth it. We may have ruined our children in the process but it was never about them.

It's so we can have the honor of being Grand...Grand-parents that is.

It took me twenty five years but I passed the test, passed!! Don't know how, but I earned the title of Grand, I get to be a Grandma.
