Going to the Jim

I shutter as I open the doors, do I dare enter? Why would I want to do this to myself, why would I purposely want to inflict pain when I'm not into this sort of thing? I feel as if I'm entering a house of horror, perhaps a torture chamber would be a better description. As I look around I see all kinds of equipment, equipment that makes me want to turn around and bolt. But then again, that would require running so I reluctantly stepped inside.

The owner and personal trainer Jim walks around the corner and greets me with a friendly smile. He's not fooling me, I've seen that same mischievous grin on the Cheshire Cat.  I nervously introduce myself, all the while thinking, "Why am I here again?"

It wasn't that long ago I was in a good place with the Zumba and Yoga classes, then summer started and we could no longer hold them at the school. If we wanted to continue through the summer months we would have to go to the local YMCA. Since I didn't want to make the drive, my friend and I began walking in the mornings to compensate.

We caught wind of a VGX (Volution Group Exercise) total body class through a mutual friend and decided to give it a try. I give anything a try, I mean, what could it hurt?

Holy moly, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. What it was hurting was my every muscle.

You see I have this aversion to painful exercise and pushing body to higher limits. Zumba is fun, exciting and exhilarating. Yoga is hard but relaxing. I like fun and relaxing.

There's nothing fun or relaxing about VGX. OK so I take it back, the M&M's are great and no, we're not rewarded with candy. It's the middle aged moms I exercise with, we gate the pain through laughter and silly humor, in between breaths that is.

Three weeks later and I'm still going strong. It's crazy or at least I must be because this total body workout goes against my very nature but yet I keep going back.

So I'm a glutton for punishment, but I'm liking the results.

Good for you! I get so much more out of working with a trainer than just on my own. As I was flipping a tractor tire up a hill in the 104 degree heat Fri afternoon, I thought something like you think- I am PAYING to having someone do this to me?

No pain, no gain.

That's awesome that you are hanging in there. I had to laugh about your "middle aged mom" statement. I so agree. A lot of the times when I am exercising, I wonder why in the heck am I doing this? I need to get my butt back to the gym!

btw - sorry I had to delete a comment. It's early and I can't spell.

You are awesome. Completely awesome. I hate working out too. I struggle through aerobics classes. I can tolerate Zumba because I love to shake it. I do like to run though and I look forward to when I am able to again (not for a few more weeks!). But it's just too. dad. gum. hot right now. When the LOW is 90? Psh. Heck no.

Keep going! As a friend of mine would say, "sweat yourself sexy!"

Teach and I have started doing Curves. It's a circuit thing. She has lost 13.5 lbs! Me? Not so much. We tried Zumba once but I didn't love it.

Way to go! It will be worth it, so stick to your plan... so I keep telling myself when I drag myself off for another round with Drill Sergeant #1 (boxercise man!) :-)

Good for you for sticking to it. I was on such a good exercise regime and then came summer, ( I too didn't want to make the drive, I mean I was already there each morning
dropping my daughter off at school.) and wow.. uh.. I start back the Y, this week. It's not going to be pretty.

Yea!! Good for you! I do a cross- training insane kick your butt workout with a bunch of ladies at church and well I sort of took the whole summer off. So after I went back on Monday- let's just say on Tuesday I could barely get my shirt on and off I was so sore

It's a great decision that you visit the gym regularly. It has numerous benefits to the body as well as the result would be a more slender figure :)
