The Cow Trail from Hell

The husband is a mountain bike enthusiast and has taken me on many of his adventurous rides.  Since I'm not a mountain bike enthusiast and don't partake in his passion for the sport, the only trail riding I do is via horseback.

This is why I'm convinced his love for me exceeds mine for him as he added a horse to his collection of  trail transportation just so we can ride together.

One of the rides we went on was called the Cow Trail from Hell. I can only guess the name came from the poor creatures who blazed the trail in the scorching heat under the desert sun. They must have thought they were either headed for hell or already in it.

Im sure its what my horse was thinking as we led them straight to the ridge. The trail was so steep it would have been cruel and unusual punishment to make them carry us.

What kept going through my mind as I hiked was trying to imagine the husband riding his bike  up that horrendous hill. I can't even inflict that kind of pain on myself, let alone my horse and here the husband does it for fun.
He recently took one of his stripling sons to Moab Utah where they were in mountain bike heaven.
My horse and I sat this one out for obvious reasons,
It was definitely a guy thing.

When I was a young mother with children at home I didn't have time to worry about where the husband was taking his bike nor did I care.

Well I'm no longer young or have children at home and because of what I know now what I didn't know then, not only do I have a greater appreciation of where he takes his bike as well as his athletic ability to ride the trails, I have the time and cause to worry when he leaves.

Mountain biking is SO incredibly hard! I've tried a lot of workouts and I'm pretty sure it's the hardest one yet. We have some really good trails around here and they kill me. Love the pics from Moab, so pretty!

That is a tough venture. Doing it on a horse is much better. What lovely terrain~

I am in awe of those who Mountain Bike and survive doing it. It is hard. If I went, I know I wouldn't be able to walk for at least a week.

So, those Berries from Costco were sold between May and April. They are the Organic with the pomegranate's in them. I took all frozen fruit from that company back to Costco and was given a refund. You can contact Costco for more information if you are worried.

Mountain biking sounds like a rugged sport. I would worry too when they are gone mountain biking.

I love the bike in bed picture. It shows the love of the sport.

Hugs,

My hubby had a bit of a thing for mountain biking a while back... thankfully he's given that up for hill walking with me instead :-)

Wow, mountain biking looks crazy hard! I'd never really thought about it. I have new respect for mountain bikers now, just from reading this post. :D

That trail looks treacherous at best. I never liked riding horses on trails like that, too scary.

Great you guys are still so active. Bikes are nice, but I'm with you, if I'm going to ride a trail, forget the motors or the wheels - just boots or on horseback. Beautiful pix. W.C.C.

It's good to be active. When I read your post I thought again (as I often do)of those pioneers doing these trails for the first time. Imagine not knowing what you would find, or even if you would find anything. Wow. I can hardly imagine that.

That last picture is pretty funny. I used to go to Moab a few times when I lived in the SLC area. Neat place for hiking and biking (although, I, like you...do not bike)
And.......if you read one of my posts as of late, it appears I am not that great of a horseback rider either. Need to sharen up my skills it appears.

Interesting post! I used to think a man’s best friend was his dog … but in some cases I can see it’s a bike. :)

Not that I wouldn't give it a shot. :-)

Oy - that would worry me too! Had to laugh at the pictures of you guys hiking WITH the horses. Because there were points on our trip to see GunDiva where the trails were so steep I was convinced we should dismount. Shocking how well the horses do when they are used to it.

But BIKING up those? No bueno! :)

Isn't it something how we trade one set of worries for another! Great exercise though. Love your horse pics... Beautiful.
