I huffed and puffed all the way home

I lost my after school gym buddy due to her son's up coming wedding. She's been a busy wedding planner and doesn't have time to workout. If I was a brave soul I would go myself but the thought of being the lone ranger with our personal trainer scares me. If it's a one on one the focus is on the one which makes the workout more intense.

Call me a wimp, it's true.

Since I was avoiding the gym but wanting to do something active, I decided to go for a jog about around the block. It starts off all well and good as the first leg of the route is down hill but as it levels out, I realized it wasn't fun anymore.

I've never been a runner nor pretended to be one, it's just that everyone makes it look so easy so I decided to give it a whirl. I soon learned it's not as easy as it looks and now, no matter which way I turn it's gonna be an upward battle just to get home.

It was time to start pretending I was something I was not, since I was on a sidewalk of a very busy street right in the middle of rush hour traffic, and began to jog.  My goal was to jog to a section of pavement, then to another and another before I allowed myself to walk a couple of feet.

Knowing full well I wasn't going to make the three mile round trip back to the house I looked for a short cut. Not far into my pretend jog I saw a road that would cut my failed attempt in half, the only catch it was a hill that went straight up, and I mean straight without a slight incline.

As I'm huffing and puffing at a snails pace of a walk my thoughts took me back to a ride I went on with my horse.

We were having a nice little slow jog happily going down a trail and just as we came to another trail that would lead us back to the farm, I turned my horse away from the home trail and turned him to the base of a ridge I wanted to climb.

Easy for me to say, since I was the one doing the riding and he was the one doing the climbing. We took it easy as he huffed and puffed up the hill. Once on top of the ridge
I dismounted to gave him a rest and me a snack.

I'm sure its not the view he's taking in
rather thinking he's a long way from home.
He felt inclined to share my granola bar and wasn't shy in the least to let me know he deserved it more than I did.

When I finally reached the house, I checked Strava and saw I only went 1.7 miles, a far cry from the 10.5 miles my horse carried me.

I'm beginning to think one on one with a personal trainer isn't looking so bad after all.

Kudos to you for even attempting a jog!! Give yourself a big pat on the back for 1.7 miles! I feel good if I just work in my yard, a trainer would probably laugh really hard if I showed up at his gym . . . :0) Your beautiful horse looks like my kind of workout, I'd even bring him his own granola bar!

My jogging days are WAY over! Last summer I attempted to increase my normal walking workout by jogging, but my hips complained for days afterwards. Getting old is not for sissies....

I used to jog but the knees can't tolerate it now. I think you did well. Biking I can handle. Go figure.

You left a comment on my blog about my missing camera, but I can't seem to respond to you since I didn't receive an email - check out Lori's advise on being a 'No Reply Commenter' on her blog www.humblequilt.blogspot.com - in the right column is a blurb on how to fix it, although I think sometimes blogs are incompatible since there are a few gals who I have a hard time communicating with. Anyway, I have an iPhone also and tried to email photos to myself to use in a blog post. I couldn't get it to work, but perhaps one of my kids can help me with it. Thanks for the suggestion!!!
