Fraudulent spending

Both the husband and I received a notification on our phones indicating someone had been using my credit card to purchase iTunes.

I hadn't seen the notification as it was early in the morning and I wasn't quite up, let alone awake. The husband saw his and poked his head in the bedroom and asked if I purchased any iTunes.

My reply was simple, I have never purchased iTunes in my entire life.

I do have an iPhone but the only tunes I listen to are ones on the Amazon music app, which happen to be free.

Later, at a more reasonable time, I finally got up. Five in the morning is for the birds and the husband, I'm more of a 7:30 kind of a gal.

The credit card company called to confirm my card was compromised and to ask a few questions.

Guy: Looks like your card was used to buy iTunes.
Me:  I've never bought iTunes in my life.
Guy: Ok, very good. I see here some were purchased yesterday and again today around 5 am.
Me: I'm not even up at that time.
Guy: OK, We will go ahead and cancel this card and send you an new one in the mail.
Me: Thank you.
Guy: While I have you on the line, I would like to ask you about some other charges on your card.
Me: Ok, go ahead.
Guy: I see here a purchase from........for........amount.
Me: Yep that was me.
Guy: I'm also showing a amount for.........from HomeAway.
Me: Yes, its for a vacation rental.
Guy: Ok, very good, there's also one for Bath and Body Works for......amount.
Me starting to laugh: Ok, Ok, enough already. Yes that was me, Yes, I go a bit crazy on their half yearly sale and yes, you said you are canceling the card so we don't need to keep going over my spending history.
Guy chuckling: Ok, very good you should get your new card in a few days. Thank you, is there anything else I can help you with?
Me: No, I think we've covered it all.

The very next day, we got another call from a different credit card company we use asking the same question about iTunes.

Somebody out there got a hold of my card numbers, which is a little freaky but luckily the credit card companies caught it time before too much damage was done.

Apparently I seem to do enough damage as it is..... all by myself.

funny (NOT HAHA) about the cards. Mine was used once and we were traveling in NY. We found a bank and went in to find out what I needed to do. the amt was 29.95, I asked why just 29.95, she said many folks will not notice or report 29$. I said they don't know my wife. LOL
Loved your conversation. BTW thanks for stopping buy the Shipslog.
We live full time in our RV. My Sherry's first thing is to check the bank and CC accts. Then the Obits back home of course. The card replacements are a little aggravating.
Stay warm.

Hi Saimi!

HEHEHEHEHEHEH!!! I need that little emoji guy laughing with tears running down his face!! What an awkward conversation!

I think having your card number stolen is such a normal thing these days, but that guy was funny! Maybe he was just trying to put some fun in his day...can you imagine having his job?! My card number was stolen once...or twice and whoever stole the number was buying flowers. I hope it was for someone nice :0)

Hugs and Love,
Barb

Stolen credit card numbers is a terrifying thing. Glad your companies were helpful in clearing it up. Happy to find your blog and to see your comment on mine:-)
