The Wake Up Call

The husband per say is a morning bird, except for the fact he is up before the birds actually start chipping.

He has this internal body clock which goes off earlier than he cares to be awake and once he's up, he's up.

After dragging himself out of bed he retreats to his office and begins his daily regime before actually having to leave for work. It's a routine he's not fond of but he can't seem to turn off his internal alarm.

Now when we go camping, it's a whole different ball game. He has no office beckoning nor does he have work nagging at him so when his body clock goes off, he just turns around and goes back to sleep.

I'm sure it's why he loves camping.

Our last over nighter he mentioned how refreshed he felt and how nice it was to actually get plenty of sleep, in his case, more than 4-5 hours.

So after we got home and he went to bed, I posted a sign on his office door with suggested hours on it, locked his office and hid his keys.

Office Hours:
6am - 8pm
If you're up before hours of operation
go back to bed.
Any questions call management
(I left my phone number so there was no question on who the sign was referring to)
after 7am

The following morning I heard him get out of bed at his usual early hour. After a while I could tell he was fumbling around searching for his keys.

He was checking his pants pockets, looking on the counter and walking in and out of our room. I was awake but I laid there still as a mouse enjoying every minute of his hunt.

Finally he quietly approached me and asked if I knew where his keys were.

I leaned over and looked at the clock, smiled and told him he had 45 minutes before hours of operation and that management was unavailable until 7.

He giggled and pleaded saying he really had things to do before work and needed to get into his office.

I suppose it can be daunting being the owner of a business when there is business to take care of, but truly every business man needs a good manager so I stepped up to the plate to be just that.

Since he wasn't abiding to the new office hours nor managements availability I went ahead and gave in because precious sleep was ticking away and as far as mornings go, that's my kind of business.

I handed him his keys which were under something on my nightstand and he said,

'You hid my keys?'

Yes indeed, I replied.

Referring to my recent retirement from working in a school district he mumbled,

'You need a job.'

Laughing I told him, Honey you are my job, you're under new management now.

He shook his head, took his keys and left the room.

As for me, I figured we can talk later about what disturbing management before 7 is going to cost him, I needed to move on to more important matters.

So I fluffed my pillow, turned my head and went back to sleep.

I was about to comment I have been this way for many years, and that is gets worse as we age. but since he can sleep while camping and I would not be able to, his must be as you say, work related. love the idea of hiding the keys but seems it did not work. YET

Lol, sometimes they need a little help to try to get them to slow down! My husband works a lot too, and I always try to get him to rest. Thank you for visiting my blog and your sweet comment! Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!

Blessings,
Jill
