Plenty of time for her to receive it, but then I got to thinking, and I thought some more, what if the parents would like to come stay with us over Mother's Day weekend?
It would mean a 5 hour drive with short notice. You see my mama is a planner and doesn't do well under last minute notifications.
I called anyway because, I'm not a planner and mostly operate under last minute notifications.
Besides, it was worth a shot knowing they probably were already snatched up by my brother who lives closer.
To my surprise when I asked her what their plans were for Mother's Day, she said they didn't have any.
Bingo!
I threw out my idea about them coming to our house on Thursday and staying through the weekend so we could celebrate Mother's Day together.
Mind you, this only gave her two days to process but when she asked my dad while I was still on the phone, he happily replied, sure! She went with it and said, OK.
I was pleasantly shocked and excited. Thursday was a good travel day as it is the day before the crazy Mother's Day traffic hits the highway.
They made good time and arrived in the afternoon.
As soon as they got settled my mom asked what the plan was. I laughed, and told her I didn't have any plans but I'm sure we can come up with things to do.
Not that she cared what we were going to do. Had I told her after we eat we would sit around until it was time to eat again then sit around some more then go to bed, she would have been fine.
She just likes to know what to expect.
Since sitting around is hard for me to do, I kept them on the go.
We had farm chores to do. Can you tell who was doing the work and who was fooling around?
Can't turn my back on them for a second.
Then we went out for a daily walk, not that it was my idea
this dog of mine sits by the front door when he's ready to go and I wasn't going to be the one to tell him we have company so he's gonna have to wait.
We went to the museum,
And hey, if the shoe fits.....
Also saw a movie and even arranged for them to visit a friend who once lived in their town and now lives in ours.
Oh and we also went out for ice cream.
Mother's Day was great. We attended church,
And all the ladies were spoiled after the service with cheesecake and yummy toppings.Luckily we didn't ruin our appetite for dinner because
I planned and prepared a special meal for both my parents and my in laws in celebration for the two amazing moms in my life.
Mine
And my Mother in Law
The icing on the cake was receiving flowers and a box of chocolates from our youngest son and his wife,
as well as talking with each of my boys.
It was a fabulous weekend and I feel so blessed to have parents in good health, willing to travel and stay active.
They're pretty cool after all.

Love that your mom got with it and didn't need a week's planning to make it happen! I think impromptu things are usually the best. It looks like they have a lot of fun together. A perfect Mother's Day for all of you. xo Diana
