We told him yes but currently we were on our way to Idaho and would be home late. He planned his three hour drive to our house around our ten hour drive to Idaho and back and as perfect timing would have it, we arrived home at the same time.
After a brief hello and a hug goodnight we all went to bed. We were going to need our rest for the upcoming Fathers Day hike in 90 degree weather.
The husbands hike consist of a weed whacker and a hedge trimmer as we hike into his bike haven playground. He knows which trails need trimming and we do this every year.
In years past it was a family affair but now as the boys are grown and gone its a toss up as to who's going to be his mule. I'll hike but I don't carry, well that's not necessarily true. I do carry my phone so I can take pictures and I did happen to bring water in case the desert heat left us parched.
Last year our middle son came into town and this year our youngest son came to help.
The boys love their dad and know this is the best gift they could give him.
So in less than 24 hours our son came to town, trails were trimmed and the canyon was left a better place.
Another great traditional Fathers Day complete.

What a nice thing to do to keep the trail in good shape. You guys are also in good shape. A lovely picture of you three. I'm glad your son could be there for Father's Day. Happy 4th of July.
Hugs, Julia
what a superb traditon, fun family time plus the trail is clear for the year. my brother at one time had 60 wooded acres in Georgia, about 30 miles from his home. he spent his week ends clearing trails like your family did, he used a machete because he wanted to.... to him it was FUN.. plus it is excellent excercise
That is such a wonderful gift for your husband for Father's Day!!! Practical and you also get to enjoy it because it is precious family time! You obviously did a fantastic raising those kids right! I could not love this post more!
