When I was a young wife, I was a bit naive and didn't understand the importance of good taste. Growing up with Danial Boone for a father, I wasn't really exposed to the finer things in life. You see, I didn't think it was odd to butcher a deer in our kitchen and have my brothers, sister and whatever friends might have been over, help package it. Practical living was how I was raised and I wouldn't trade my childhood for anything different. My dad would make our lunches every morning. He had five little brown bags sitting on the counter ready for us to take to school. The only type of spread he used on sandwiches was "Sandwich Spread." Gag me, that was the worst tasting stuff and would ruin, what could have been, a perfectly good tasting sandwich. I learned to eat mine plain. Fast forwarding, I'm now a young wife with three little boys, wonderful little boys mind you. My goal was to be the best mom, and in order to be the best, Sandwich Spread was not a condiment in our refrigerator. Instead, was this spread called Miracle Whip. Forgive me, but I didn't know any better. It was what the husband grew up using, as a matter of fact, his entire family loves that stuff. I finally realized the error of my ways when my oldest boy, at the time he was 6, asked me to make him an egg sandwich. So of course I did what any good mom would do, I made him his sandwich. I cooked the egg, put it between the bread lathered it with Miracle Whip and gave it to him. He took one bite and said it didn't taste the way Mrs. Eakin made her egg sandwiches. Mrs. Eakin's egg sandwiches? How hard is it to make an egg sandwich anyway?? I quickly called my neighbor to ask her how she made her egg sandwiches and she told me step by step how she did it. OK, so nothing is new here, I also did those same steps. But the one thing different, was the spread she used. Ready for this, it was Best Foods Mayonnaise. Never heard of it, but wanting to please my child and to satisfy my own curiosity, I bought the condiment, and let me tell you....What a difference it makes, love the stuff! I no longer can stand the taste of Miracle Whip, but I do keep a jar for the husband. As for me and two of my sons, we have converted. My middle boy and his dad, who are two peas in a pod anyway, still favor the nasty flavor of Miracle Whip.
So I ask you, What's your pleasure?

Best foods is the only thing I will eat. Travis one time trying to be frugal bought Fred Meyer brand and I was repulsed. He said it would be the same and of course he was wrong. I bought me a jar of the good stuff. He was stuck with the bad. Miracle Whip is the only stuff my Dad will eat.
But I am a lover of Best Foods too!!
Best Foods All the way Baby! I grew up on Mircle Whip. I didn't even know what Mayo was until we got married. Sad...I know...but true. Can't live without the stuff. Especially on BLT's. YUM!
You know it's funny we always had the two growing up too- Miracle Whip for Dad and Mayonnaise for the rest of the family! My mom grew up on Best Foods so I think she passed it down to use because I don't remember her ever fixing us a sandwich with Miracle Whip. She probably had some influence on our bias! It's funny how that works! Personally I buy Best Foods, but I'll eat Miracle Whip with no problem.
I like Miracle Whip. It's got a tany zip! But, it also has sugar, so now I'm a mayo girl, which is also fine.
I remember that day.
