Wait a minute Mr. Postman....
"Don't forget to write your thank you notes." "If you have time to enjoy your gifts, then you have time to show your gratitude." A simple thank you is sufficient at the time but It should always be followed with a card in the mail, at least that's my motto.
I've been a stickler and a nag when it comes to reminding the boys to write thank you cards to those who acknowledged them no matter the occasion. Now that they are no longer around to hear my constant reminding I have only myself to listen to.
We're already into the new year and I just recently got around to sending out my own thank you cards. I guess I'm not a very good listener or maybe I just didn't nag myself enough.
I finally had them written and ready to be mailed but I missed the postman. Determined to get them out, I took the cards and dropped them off at a local drive up mailbox in which pickup would be later that afternoon, assuring me they would still go out that day.
I stopped by The Graduates place to drop off his mail and to give him a card as well. That's when I noticed my card wasn't in the pile. With only his name on the envelope and no return address, I panicked thinking it must have been in the stack of cards I put in the mailbox.
I drove back to the parking lot to the mailbox and went inside the store which houses a small post office. I explained to the lady my predicament and she kindly took my name and number and said she would give it to the mailman when he comes inside to collect the mail. She said he will give it to the main post office and hopefully they will call me when they find it.
Being the obsessive person that I am, later that day I went back to the mailbox hoping to intercept the postman so I can retrieve the card and avoid the hassle of the whole post office thing.
I got there well before his time of pickup and waited for 20 minutes...No postman. I couldn't keep waiting so I put my faith in the hope of getting a call from the post office. What else could I do?
Once I arrived home I parked the Little Red Riding Truck in it's usual spot and as I was walking up the sidewalk, I noticed a card on the ground, the very card I was worried about.
Lucky break on my part and the mailman's. He had no idea how close he came to a crazy woman who would have had him dig through his bag searching for a little yellow envelope. Or, maybe he did. Could explain why he was late to pick up.

Phew! At least all is well that ends well :-)
I was always taught to send thank you notes as a child and now I love getting them from my nieces and god daughters.
PS Sorry about the errors in the first comment.. I don't have kids let alone grandchildren :-)
Oh, what you had to go through to get that sent out, but how great it turned up. I, too, am big on thank-you's!
You lucked out! You are so good. I need to get better at sending out thank you notes. Question: Do your adult kids now send out there own thank you notes? I am going to start nagging my own kids to write them. We need to work on etiquette in my house.
Thank you notes are definately a dying art! And that should NOT be the case.
I love handwritten, sent through the mail- Thank You's.
You are a good Mama to teach your kids, especially boys that this is important!
Glad you found that card - then again it would be nice for the postman to see what "Going Postal" means from the other side. Ha!
I need to be better at writing TY notes. We never really did that in my family, growing up. I think people just send emails now.
I knew we had another thing in common. I still love to write hand-written notes to people.

I love your crazy story, it make a great post... You could have saved you all this agony though by just writing another card and addressing it but I'm glad that it turned out this way.
You're a good woman. JB
This could totally happen to me.
What's with people thinking they don't have to send thank-you's for wedding and shower gifts nowadays? I think that's so rude.
Oh great, now I have "is there a letter in your bag for me, Mr.Poh-oh-oh-oh-ohstman...
So glad you found the letter. And thanks for the reminder, I still need to do that.
Hit it....To answer your question, yes my boys do send out their thank yous, for which I'm grateful!
Your so funny. Speaking of thank-you's, I have yours for the baby shower gift, I had it for a month :)
A few of my elderly friends from the Senior Center sent me thank you notes for giving them those popcorn wrapper/winter gloves gifts. It was very nice of them.
I worked with my grandson the other day to make thank you drawings. While he worked on his, I made up a thank you to him as well thanking him for visiting me. I hope by setting an example and having him feel like he mattered to me will work rather than just telling him to give thanks... We'll see. Take care,
Haha, I once had to call the post office out because I'd accidentally mailed some cds from work that were very immediately needed. They were incredibly indulgent and kind to me, something I'll always remember. In retrospect I should have written them a thank you card!
Well, good thing that you found the card...smart mom to teach her sons that thank yous are important. It's funny how many boxes of Thank You cards are at the thrift stores! ;D
Ok, I'm trying not to laugh but I am.......gives a whole new meaning to "going postal"
I agree with the written thank you note. So important.
That is funny. I love hearing about the crazy things you do.
I totally think we could "hang out" cause I understand crazy.
Oh, I'm so late on my Christmas thank-you's! Thanks for the reminder. :)
Phew! That was close. Glad it worked out for everyone's sake - don't need anyone going postal ;)
This is a good reminder that I need to write a few Thank-you cards. Along with having my children write a few as well. We do forget these days to teach our children to write a simple Thank-you card.
I can't believe your boys send out thank yous! You did an amazing job with them. Wow.
I am embarrassed to admit I am awful about sending letters through snail mail. Sad, really. It is so romantic these days to receive a lovely letter in the mail. I should be better about it.
Isn't it amazing sometimes how things just work out?

Hahahah! Imagine that! And thanks for the reminder to get my thank yous out. I'm slackin'.
Mine have been written and mailed long ago.
Ya hit on one of my pet peeves. It seems like the art of writin' thank you notes is lost.
Girl, ya must live right 'cause ya really lucked out here.
God bless and have a stupendous day sweetie!!! :o)
