Thirty years and counting

Nine months ago the husband and I sat around our dining room table with another couple whom we have known for twenty some years. We discussed going to Hawaii together to celebrate the husbands and mine thirty year wedding anniversary.

At first I was skeptic, not about going to Hawaii, but using the 'gift' certificate we both received in the mail. It was a smashing deal from the Maui Sheraton Spa and Resort in Kaanapali, pretty much an offer you can't refuse. Well at least I can, but our friends wife bought into it and by doing the research, she convinced us it was legit.

During our discussion, the husband and our friend were on a conference call with the Sheraton making all the arrangements. They booked the arrival and departure dates, the rooms we wanted and even our plane reservations.

It was set, we were all going. With a substantial deposit made there was no turning back scam or no scam.

February came sooner than later and while I should have been super excited about going, the husbands work took a turn for the busy. He's never bombarded this time of year, summer yes but not in February.

The way things were looking, going to Hawaii was not going to happen, at least for him.

The week leading up to our departure was touch and go and he was feeling really bad that there was a chance he wasn't going to be able to make it. Finally a compromise was made.

He decided he would go for at least three days but anything longer was next to impossible. To better understand where he was coming from, I asked to see the job site and was shocked at the work that needed to be done. I truly felt overwhelmed for him.

The husband thought it would be a good idea if my childhood friend, whom I haven't seen in years, should go. I gave her a call and she was thrilled.

The husband and I and our friends left on a Thursday for Hawaii and on Saturday the husband caught the red eye back home. My friend flew in from Texas on Friday night and stayed the week with me.
The trip was amazing. The 'gift' certificate from the resort was not a scam and we had rooms waiting for us upon our arrival.
The weather was incredible and the husband and I made the most out of our time together.

As for my friend from Texas, we picked up where we left off. Although older in age, the silliness, laughter and excessive talking was right on par.
Did I mention I've known her for 45 years?

As all vacations do, the time flew by and the next thing I knew I was driving my Texas friend to the airport. She thanked me for inviting her to celebrate the husband and mine thirty year anniversary, then we laughed, cried and hugged goodbye.
I was anxious to fly home and see the husband as I know working non stop to meet deadlines was taking a toll on him as well as all the extra things like tending to the horses and doggies and house responsibilities.
I feel so blessed to have such an incredible, supportive loving husband
who is responsible and a dedicated provider of our family.
Cheers not just to a another thirty years together
but to eternity.

So happy you got to have at least a few days with hubby and congrats on 30 years of marriage. You both look so relaxed and happy.

Thanks for the comment on my almost "obsolete" blog post. I stopped blogging last fall when a not so nice family member felt the need to criticize my last post (which I deleted so she couldn't gather information to use against me). I had to block anyone who doesn't have a blog address from commenting. Some people are so miserable in their lives that they can't stand it when you walk away from them and create a good life. Enough about that sad situation.

I look forward to going back through your previous posts and catching up on what's happening with you.

I would LOVE to be neighbors with you, we could have so much fun.

always,
Connie
