Hero Up

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's the 5th annual charity race called Hero Up.

Five years ago our friends lost one of their twin boys to brain cancer. He was only 4 years old.

Since then they have organized a charity race in Tigard Oregon where 100% of the proceeds go towards cancer research.

They call it Hero Up.

Their son was big into super hero's and during their time spent in the hospital they were able to witness other little hero's battling for their lives.

They hold the race every year on the Saturday of Labor day weekend. Each year the husband and I seem to miss the event  for one reason or another but not this time.

We decided to make it a priority and offered to help. They were more than happy to put us to work so we drove our camp trailer to Oregon and parked it in an RV site near by.

Friday night we were given our assignments and Saturday we were ready for action.

The park was filled with superhero's of all shapes and sizes and all ages. They had a half marathon, a 5K and some kid races as well.

We were amazed at the enormity of it all and how well organized it was.

The kids races were especially cute and what I loved the most was our friend, dressed as the Hulk, lead the children through the course.

This amazing family is such an example and inspiration to me on how to take loss and pain and turn it into something positive by making a difference in other people lives.

I see this photo and can't help but think he's looking up at his brother, his twin he lost 5 years ago.
 It felt good to
Something I plan on doing from now on, not just once a year but daily.

Oh how difficult loosing one of the twins to cancer at such a young age. What courageous parents. They are very inspiring and I can see they have really touched your heart deeply.
It's so good of you both to get involved.

It can only get bigger and better. So cute to see all the little Super Heros getting involved to raise money and awareness.
Hugs, Julia

Hi Saimi!

What an amazing event!! Looks like it was a hit with the kids as well as the adults. The, "Hero Up" theme is so appropriate, as I have seen many children in the hospital who are true heroes. I can't imagine losing a child, his parents and family, must be amazing! Loved the Hulk!

Hugs,
Barb
