A Grandparents Vacation

Three years and going strong!

When our son and his wife were building a house and the one they were living in sold they basically had nowhere for me to spend my week with their boys.

It was then I suggested it was time for the boys to start spending a week with us, just the grandparents. They were only three when they gave them to us and since the week was so successful they let them stay for another one.

And thus a tradition was created.

We just finished our third year having grandparent time with the boys.

Our son and daughter-in-law needed to go to Coeur d'Alene for some business so we decided to bring our camp trailer and meet them at the lake.  It wasn't exactly an equal drive as they had the longer road but hey, the anticipation of waiting for the boys seemed like an eternity.

To say the least, they were thrilled to spend a few days camping. The RV park was right on the lake and with a few buckets and shovels the boys were in heaven.

We decided to kick things off at Silverwood Theme Park.
Just a few miles down from where we were camping made for a fun filled exciting day.

Then we packed things up and headed to Wenatchee for a little less glamorous camping trip. We went to Mission Ridge so the husband and our son could race their mountain bikes on the ski trails.

Who needs glamor when there are bugs to find,
 bikes to ride
and a small sand patch to dig in.

Both the husband and our son Derek won their category but it didn't come without some sacrifice.
The husband took quite the fall and by the looks of his face the rock he landed on got the best of him.

We said our goodbyes to Derek and headed home.
The rest of the week flew by. It wasn't hard to find things to keep the boys busy.

We had the neighbors pool to splash in.

Raspberries to pick.
Flowers to plant.
Farm chores to attend.

Sprinklers to run through.
And neighbors to borrow.
We also took a road trip to a water park where I borrowed the neighbors again and let me just say, there was no shortage of fun going on.

We also hung out with our the great grandparents on the 4th.
We went multiple times to Kids Castle to romp and play. I just can't seem to pass up those cute neighbors and since they were willing to tag along, we brought them.

Seriously 10 days went so fast! We kept track every night of our daily activities to show their mom and dad all the fun we were having.
We never experienced tornado's but the boys loved drawing them just the same. Actually maybe we did, some days it felt like we were in one or two but they were more like twinado's.

Saying goodbye was the hardest. My little Oliver didn't like the idea of leaving and literally sobbed the whole time his parents were packing them up.
"I'm gonna miss you Grandma Saimi."

I'm going to miss you too my Ollie bop.

Your family is just beautiful and no wonder he was sobbing what a fun time was had by all of you. And there's no doubt that your son is his father's son I love that picture of them together and they look so much alike and it looks like the boys are going to look just like them too

Congrats on your son and hubby winning the bike marathon in their division. Poor hubby though hitting his face.

I'd be sobbing too if I had to leave a fun grandma like you. I'm sure you won't have to cokes them to spend some time with you next time. It looks like it was all fun and play. Sorry about your husband wiping out like that but congratulations to the men for winning their division.
Enjoy the rest of the summer.
Hugs, Julia

Hi Saimi!

What a fun grandma!! Nothing like being a grandma...even when the tears come, it's still amazing! These are things they will remember and talk about when they are grandparents...memories.

Hugs and Love,
Barb
