The line I was in was the only option I had until the overwhelmed checker called for a back up.
A couple of people with their carts got out of the slow moving line and hopped over to the backup checker leaving me the dilemma of what to do.
The guy I was behind was up next but he had a ton of groceries and the newly formed line was growing longer by the minute so I decided to stay put.
In my cart was a brand of lotion I haven't heard of but it was the lemony smell that sold me.
I love every thing lemon. The color, smell and taste and this lotion, had me drooling.
If I didn't know better, the smell alone could be mistaken for a fresh baked lemon bar or tart.
Since it was on sale, I put not one but two lotions, a foaming hand soap and a body wash in the cart then waited my turn to check out.
The new line was clipping along nicely making me doubt the choice I made but since I wasn't in a hurry, I just watched the older gentleman before me continue to put his groceries on the belt.
As he was doing so, he looked at the four items in my cart and said, "You poor dear, I'm sorry."
I told him not to worry it was the choice I made and that I was fine.
Actually it became a game to see if I gambled correctly, who in the next line was going to check out first me or them?
When it was my turn the checker thanked me for my patience and started talking about how he and his wife love that brand of lotion.
He asked me if it was on sale and I assured him it was but then he did something unexpected.
Not only did I get the sale price, but he added a buy one get one free on top of it.
He must have saw the surprise in my face because before I could say anything, he just thanked me again for my patience and left it at that.
Now the only dilemma I have is whether I'm going to use it as it's intended or eat it.

Oh!!! I love Watkin's products. That is a really OLD company and has been around since the mid 1800s I think. My mother and grandmother used their products. They have the best salve I have ever used. It is Watkins Petro-Carbo salve. If you have something like a hangnail that you pull out (and you know how that hurts!!!) you can put a bit of salve on it with a bandaid and overnight ALL the pain is gone- no kidding. You used to be only able to buy Watkins through door-to-door salesmen--much like the old Fuller Brush company. I use all their 'lemony' products, too-even though I can't smell them right now. lol
Patience pays off, doesn't it? I think the biblical saying is that "patience is a virtue". lol
Have a wonderful, wonderful week!!!! xo Diana
I always like your stories. I remember my mom buying Watkins products when I was young. I didn't know their products were still available. The cashier was really nice.
I hope you enjoy using the lemony products. Have a great week. Hugs, Julia
I am now in my old age allergic to any and everything scented. if I were not I would love this because I love the smell of lemon. lemon oil on the furniture doesn't bother my allergies, and I am grateful for that. what a nice thing for the cashier to do for you and you did what I would do. just wait it out.... our Walmart has gone self check out, so no long lines now. I love it but many do not....
Now that made me smile on this chilly Monday morning!
Enjoy those lovely products. : )
I love the smell of lemons - you were so sweet in line!
I love the smell of that lotion!! If you EVER FIND IT ON SALE, you've found a bargain. I've never found it on sale. Not sure how old you are? and not going to be rude and ASK!!----HA HA HA LOL, but back in the Seventies, we had a cologne called "Love's Fresh Lemon" and oh my word!--it smelled divine! I practically bathed in it, ha ha! I think they had cologne, dusting powder, and maybe lotion. Years later they (had the nerve!!) to discontinue it.....and I never saw it again. Sure missed it. Then about maybe ten years ago, I saw a bunch of miniature bottles of "nostalgic Love's Fresh Lemon" I think for sale around Christmas, not sure. I WAS THRILLED AND bought a bunch. It only smelled like Lemon Pledge..........not the delicious sunny crisp scent of long ago......sniff, sniff, tears. LOL
Also Avon used to sell something in their "Mark" line called lemon sugar. It did smell amazing....wonder if they still make it?
I like lemon scent too, are you tempted to eat the lotion? How nice the checker gave you such a deal. I use a lemon oil on my antique oak French hutch.
Hahahaha!!! Patience pays off!
