Time for celebration

Our youngest son George just turned 30, making all three of our boys officially in their 30's.

Man, oh man, I was fine with his brothers aging up, but my baby boy? Who said age is just a number anyway? Haha.

His birthday landed on Wednesday. The husband was out of town until Friday while our middle son Derek came into town.

When I talked to George about what the plans were for his birthday, he said they were going to celebrate it on Friday.

This worked out perfect since the husband was coming home on Friday. I figured we could jet down to Vancouver when he got back.

Since Derek was in town with his own business meetings to tend to, I asked him if he wanted to go to the gym with me.
Sorta bring your son to the gym on his brothers birthday, day.
Happy Birthday George, we burned calories for you.

The husband made it home, Derek went back home and the husband and I hopped in the car and drove to Vancouver.
Dinner was a smash hit but dessert was amazing!
The husband and I also had an alternative motive for the weekend getaway. It was our 34th wedding anniversary.

To say the least, we packed in a birthday and anniversary in less than two days.

We spent Friday night at our son's house with the Saturday tradition of eating breakfast at a cute place in Portland called the Waffle Window.

They seriously make the best waffles.  After stuffing ourselves we took our full bellies and rolled into the car and drove to the Japanese Garden. A brisk walk would do us some good.
Although we all felt like the way our daughter in law looks, she was the only one who got the pass since her belly is stuffed with our granddaughter.

The gardens were so beautiful and immaculate.

The Japanese have the gardening thing dialed in, a green thumb for sure something I wish I had.
This girl was such a trooper, she's at the point where everything hurts, sitting, sleeping and even walking. It's crazy to think in just a few weeks we are going to meet that lil' baby.
We also went to the largest privately owned bookstore in the world, Powell's Books.
You know how you can get lost in a bookstore? Lost like caught up in looking at books and letting your mind go. Well in Powell's you literally can get lost. It's a couple stories high, pun intended, with rows and rows and rows and rows of bookshelves.

Luckily each room is color coated which made it easier for us to find George and Megan. He called and said they were in the gold room.

Ok, we're in the blue room, we'll come to you.

We found some helpful cookbooks for our new vegan way of eating. It was scary at first but actually its not as hard as I thought it would be.

Just before we headed home, we had lunch followed by a vegan chocolate cake I made and brought for the birthday boy.
A double layer, with chocolate frosting in the middle. This was the second one I made. The husband got one for Valentines Day.

The fun didn't stop there, after we drove three hours to get home the first thing we did was stop to check in on the horses, then we went to dinner.

After we ate I noticed the husband wasn't headed in the home direction. As a matter of fact, he surprised me with tickets to see a cute play called 'Becky's new car'.

Let's see, we left Vancouver at 2 in the afternoon, saw the horses at 5 and did some farm chores, ate dinner around 6, went to the play after 7 and got home at 10.

I just gotta say, It's a wonderful life and I'm so blessed to be going through it with this man of mine.

Hi Saimi~

I really don't know anyone who can have fun like you can!! I love reading about everything you do, I feel like I have been to the gym after reading about your week-end!! Happy late anniversary, 34 years is something to be very proud of, congrats! And, happy late birthday to your son, your 30 year old son!! Wait until they are almost 50...quite a shock to the system ;0)

The Japanese gardens are gorgeous!! I don't have a green thumb either, but I love to look at gardens. Vegan! I have always wanted to go vegan, but my husband is such a carnivore! I know I would feel better, and I have actually cut way back on meat. It just feels right to me.

We went to the airport today and told my granddaughter goodbye for the next 18 months...I cried...a lot. It was good to read your post, you always make me smile!

Hugs and Love,
Barb

That’s a beautiful area. Our songwriting friend Tracy Reynolds’ family lives in Vancouver. We’ve never been but it’s on our list.
Happy anniversary. My wife Jilda and I celebrated our 45 last May.

Wow-you guys really packed in a lot of fun! Happy birthday to your 'baby' George. You have such a good looking family; the baby is gonna be gorgeous too. I was looking at Mama-to-be and thinking: "She's gotta be ready to have that baby!"
Happy anniversary to you both; life IS good!
