That's a whole lotta hair.....dryer

Not being the mom of girls I rather enjoy, or should I say, am elated having daughter in laws.

Raising sons, I never had the challenge of doing hair. Pretty bows, braids, buns and pony tails would have stretched my capabilities in the salon department but It would have been fun trying.

I love my boys. I love everything about having boys in the house and maybe there was a reason I missed out on the whole girl experience, perhaps its why I love and appreciate my daughter in laws all the more. When they come to visit, the basement part of the house has the guest rooms and bathroom equipped to accommodate their needs.

The only thing the guest bathroom lacks is a hairdryer. One of the essentials a girl needs to help her prepare for the day. I suppose I never truly thought about needing a second hairdryer until my sons wives are here. I'm perfectly happy to share mine and actually enjoy the opportunity to do so. I worked out a system by getting up first, wash and dry my hair then run the hairdryer downstairs and leave it on the bathroom counter for the girls. The system works fine but always in the back of my head I feel the guest bathroom should have it's own hairdryer. If hotels can provide hairdryers for their traveling guest, then I suppose its the least I can do too.

I decided to donate mine to the downstairs bathroom and replace it with a new one. It's been awhile since I bought a new dryer and was overwhelmed by all the choices. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Even ones with retractable cords for easy storage. A retractable cord seemed practical narrowing my decision making immensely.  It was a no brainer, I bought the hairdryer.

For the first few months my new and improved hairdryer was working like a charm. Pull the cord out, plug it in then push a button when I'm done and the cord swiftly retracts back into the dryer. Pretty cool until one day the cord would only pull out part way leaving me on a short tether to dry my hair.

It would recoil just fine but would not pull completely out. Frustrated I returned the dryer.

Shopping for hairdryer number two I went to a different store and bought a different brand. Same basic buttons. On, off, medium and high speed minus the retractable cord button. I learned my lesson.

I prefer to dry my hair on  medium speed so it's not going crazy on me as I try to tame my curls by brushing them out with some kind of control. I thought I accidentally touched the  switch with my thumb in the process because the dryer clicked on high. To my surprise it didn't matter which way I flipped the switch, the dryer insisted on the high speed. Over and over again I tried the medium speed. Turning the dryer off and trying again didn't seem to work either so once again, I found myself in the return line.

Hairdryer number three came home with me. Once again a different brand but this one never even stood a chance. As soon as It came out of  the box I noticed a broken part. I packed it up and it went back to the store.

I found myself leaving the store empty handed and made my way to the guest bathroom to return my old dryer to it's rightful place. I have time before there are any girls in the house and if it happens that they need a hairdryer,

I'll be happy to share mine.

How frustrating!! They just don't make things the way they used to, I have had my hairdryer for years! I guess I should baby it, to make sure it doesn't quit working . . .:0)

Your DIL's are beautiful!!

Happy Valentines Day!!

That is the saddest hair dryer shopping story ever! I hate return lines! I now feel more thankful that when I bought a second hair dryer (because my daughter had commandeered mine and I couldn't ever find it) I managed to get a good one. Sharing should work just fine :-)
