I confess, I've got this obsession when it comes to notifications, sounds and haptics. I'm so bothered by all the noises apps make that I keep my phone on silent.
The rings and clicks just drive me crazy.
Sound crazy, I probably am.
I don't need to know every time I get an email or response from Facebook or Instagram or a text by a ring, the little red bubble is notification enough.
Now with the husbands phone, not that he is on social media because he's not, rings and dings at every other little thing.
I'm not dogging him I know I'm the odd man out in this department and since his phone is his business it's more of a necessity for him but at night.... when its sitting on the charger and we're in bed....I can't sleep.
With the volume on high, I hear every notification while he's snoozing away.
Well, in the interest of a good nights sleep and just before I retire, I've made it a habit of turning the volume of his phone on silent.
It works splendidly and so does my slumber.
One night, about after a week of turning his phone down, we were tucked in, I remembered I forgot to take care of the nightly ritual I popped out of bed and mentioned to the husband, " I'll be right back!"
(His phone charger is in the living room )
When I returned he asked what I did so I told him what I've been doing for the last week.
He started to laugh, "I thought my phone was shutting down automatically."
Every morning when he would retrieve his phone off the charger he noticed it was on silent.
I'm like, "Nope it was just me, I'm your auto shutdown. I just can't sleep with all the sounds your phone makes."
"What if there's an emergency?"
Honey, if you can sleep through your notifications, then it's not an emergency and it can wait til morning.

I love your ranting this morning.
I'm with you on the noises the smartphones make. I've turned off just about every notification apps and only use my iPhone for necessities. I love my alarm that I set for specific times during the day but I totally detest being awakened by the ding that tells me that my total screen time is less than 9 minutes a day this week from last week. Argh...
Take care, stay safe.
Hugs, Julia
I am with you. i hate noises and dings. I turned off every notification except one, the call coming in ring and a small ding for text. the reason I can do this, is there are only 5 people in the world that text me and that is a rare thing. I turn the phone off at 7:30 and back on when we get up. everyone knows if there is an emergency call the house phone. my tablet drives me crazy. I turned off the thing that says all notifications. there is still one that makes a noise not a ding not a dong. and it does it 6 to 10 times every 10 15 minutes. i can not find what makes it do that. it is on permanent silent mode.
small noises, a dripping faucet 2 rooms away keep me awake.
I can hear a gnat sneeze at 100 yards. water dripping in the rain barrel, frogs croaking on the window sill, water dripping on a bucket HE left upside down under the roof drip line. all of these things have sent me out at midnight to remove the noise. i went out to kILL the frog but could not do it. i wanted to... most of all the TV noise makes me crazy. i can hear the tv when the sound is on 10 or 11, he plays it all day long on 26 to 29.
here is my theory..... God made men so they could sleep through anything because they have a warrior gene and need to be ready to protect at any moment. we have babies to care for, he gave us ULTRA hearing. a sneeze, a cry, a roll around in the bed signal. and the sound of a child puking in the bed getting it in his hair.. my husband never knew I got out of bed but that was years ago... i have been known to think of invenitng an UN hearing aid
I agree with you! I don't need to know everytime someone sends email, message, etc. How people live with that I don't know!!! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog to "chat" and leave a comment!!! Happy New Year!
Hi Saimi~
I turn all of the notifications off, I hate all of those bells and whistles! I think it's funny that you turned your husbands phone to silent...we have to do what we have to do, right!? Hehehe!
Hugs and Love,
Barb
I am SO with you on this!! I keep the sound off on my laptop, and only turn the sound up on my phone when I'm expecting a call ~
Same!!!!!!!
The older I get, the less I want!
Less noise, less stuff, less chaos!
So nice to visit with you, my friend.
Have a cozy day.
I just had this conversation with my husband last week! We keep our phones on our night stands and his wakes me up numerous times a night! I finally remembered to ask him to turn it down before he comes to bed. Now I might hear the sound but it doesn't jar me completely awake. Ahhh, peaceful sleep! :)
Hi Saimi. I still have a link on my blog that goes to yours and so I thought I'd come on over and see how you were doing. I think those twin grandsons of yours were much littler when I "saw" them last and that little granddaughter is a princess! I am so glad you are doing well and I liked catching up on your family! I hope this year is a great one for you too. And lastly -- I'm with you on the notifications. I even turn off the little numbers on my email because otherwise I am constantly checking email so there will be no numbers!
Blessed are all the silent prayers we say on earth ...
Because they make a lot of noise when they reach heaven and the ears of God ...
please come back. You are missed!!! hope all is well. Stay safe and well and God bless!
So agree on this. Have a happy and safe weekend.
