Celebrating the 4th of July camping style

We got an early start on our 4th of July celebrations by heading out of town with our camp trailer and horses the Friday before the fourth.

Once we arrived, we secured our spot among the empty parking lot of the horse park we were staying at. Obviously not the destination location for Fourth of July partiers which in turn, made it a perfect spot for us.

We basically had the place to ourselves. The husband hooked up the trailer to all the things trailers need for comfort and I settled the horses in with all they needed for their comfort.

This time they had covered stalls with shavings.

The following day we rode the horses around the area on a nice 5.5 mile trail. We liked it so much, later in the afternoon we rode it again only going in the opposite direction.

I can't get over the beauty of the trails with the pine trees and greenery. We are so used to desert and sage that when I'm in the mountains with tall forest trees it's like eye candy to me.

My husbands horse likes to be the lead horse when we ride together so mine humors him and stays behind following his tail.

As I was looking around at the beauty of the trail we were on, my horse stopped at something she happened to see. When I turned my head in her direction I saw a large black image thinking it was somebodies big Newfoundland dog, then came to my senses and realized it was a bear.

I called out to the husband and he turned around. We all kinda just stared at one another, us looking at the bear, and the bear looking at us.

Then he bounded off and we continued on.

Sunday we decided to head back to town and attend church. Again we were only staying an hour or so from home so it wasn't a big deal to leave. Besides I teach a 4 year old primary class and I really don't like to miss it.

Monday we trailered the horses to a state trail and rode 5.5 miles in then turned around and rode back. The trail was again, so pretty. We were next to a gorgeous lake, crossed a couple of bridges and went through a tunnel.
Round trip it was an 11 mile ride.
It's nice being able to shower the horses after a long hot ride, It's gotta feel good, right?

On Tuesday the 4th, our son and his girlfriend stopped by. He brought his bike so while the men folk went for a ride, his girlfriend and I took the horses out and explored some trails.

I really enjoyed our time together. She and our son have been dating only 5 months so it was fun getting to know her better.

I would love to show off some pictures of her but never took any because my phone took a plunge, literally.

It fell out of my back pocket and into the toilet. To say the least, putting it in a bag of rice didn't help so I spent the remainder of our trip without a phone.

I can do without a phone, I just hate missing an opportunity to take pictures.

My motto is, if there's not a picture, then it didn't happen. I hope it's not an omen that I wasn't able to capture our brief time together.

Wednesday morning came so we gathered ourselves and headed home.

It was another wonderful and successful camping trip. I'm kinda liking this, ok I'm liking it a lot.

You have the nicest smile and it looks like you're really enjoying this camping trip.
Oh no!!! Sorry about the phone dying in the toilet. An acquaintance of mine lost two cell phones in the toilet. At least, you didn't get bothered by phone calls.

Take care,Hugs,
Julia

Wow. So fun. Sounds like the best 4th of July.
Sorry about the phone. No camera is a bummer.

Keep the gorgeous pictures coming.

It sounds like a great time, except the phone in the toilet! And the bear would have been quite scary! Glad you got to spend time with your sons girlfriend!
