While spending too much time researching something on my laptop I noticed the battery was getting low. Reaching under the couch for the cord to plug it in I saw some of the plastic was off exposing the wires.
I suppose it happened when I was vacuuming and ran over the cord. Needless to say, some handy dandy electricians tape would do the fix. Some would argue Duct tape is the cure all, and I would agree but on that rare occasion, a roll of electrician's tape is good to have on hand.
Being an electrician's wife I knew exactly what to do. I wrapped a small amount around the exposed wires and plugged in my cord.
Funny thing though, my computer still wasn't charging and It was getting down to the wire with the battery life.
The last thing I wanted to do was to buy a new cord so I kept fiddling with it. The husband asked what I was doing so I mentioned to him what the deal was with my cord and how I thought I had fixed the problem with the tape.
He looked it over and said it should work but when I showed him the light on the cord wasn't coming on he grew more interested.
With the cord in hand as it was plugged into the laptop I moved it just so and the husband pointed out the light had come on.
I was elated figuring if I continued to hold the cord exactly as I was, the computer will charge.
It would make it a bit cumbersome trying to hold the cord and type at the same time but I was sure I could work it out.
Then the husband sorta chuckled at me and mentioned he turned on the light switch.
Apparently the end of the cord was plugged into the outlet which was controlled by the light switch.
Turn on the switch, light comes on, turn off the switch and the light goes off.
Some electricians wife I make, had he not told me he turned on the light I'd still be holding the cord in one hand trying to type this post with the other.

OMW! i am laughing so hard, this is so something i would do...hilarious since it did not happen to me... i wish they made a battery for laptops that will last for 10 hours. mine says it will last 6 or 7 but 2 hours of contnued use and it is gone... thanks for the morning laughter....
That is too funny. I'm positive that you are still a good electrician wife though and I'm sure your electrician husband would agree. I'm glad the problem was solved without spending money.
Thanks for sharing this life little moment that makes us laugh.
Hugs, Julia
LOL, Saimi. I have had the same thing happen-minus the frayed wire and electrical tape. Glad you got it to work though. xo Diana
Too funny! I thought you did a great job! :)
that sure sounds like things that happen to me! LOL Happy weekend!
Hi Saimi!
Hehehe!! That is too funny! I have had the same problem...sometimes things are too simple for me to figure out! My husband was a pipefitter, so I any plumbing problem is his...I stay completely out of it! although I do call, duct tape, magic mend-all.
Hugs and Love,
Barb
