When it Snows it Falls

We've been through two winter months, December and January, with mild temperatures and sunny days. It was an odd couple of months for us but welcoming just the same.

Our mountains were getting the needed snow which really, is all our valley is concerned about.

I pretty much thought we were on the homestretch of winter and heading into spring, even the groundhog agreed.

Just goes to show the only one in control of the weather is, well, the weather itself.

Sunday morning about 5 A.M. our winter storm hit and it snowed for 24 hours straight dumping over a foot of snow.

Our weather forecast was actually for 2-3 inches but then again, the weather has it's own mind and decided to show what the forecasters can do with their predictions.

Of course our little winter storm doesn't even compare or come close to what the mid west had. They got hit hard and I can't even imagine the devastation everyone went through.

The schools in the area closed for the day in which our neighbors took full advantage.

As did the husband
Oskar wasn't sure what to think and was wondering why he had to go out in the cold.
I figured a brisk walk would do him some good and once he got used to the idea, he was in agreement.

It continued to snow all day Monday and into the night. The husband had shoveled our driveway at least four times and one more just before bed.

Come Tuesday morning he had enough and went out and bought a new kind of shovel.
He loved it so much that not only did he take care of our driveway but a few of the neighbors as well. After spending the morning at home unburying us he headed to the farm to move snow with his tractor.

Today, the sun came out and tried its best to warm our 9 degree day but to no avail. It stayed cold but it sure made the snow look pretty.

Here are a few pictures of our farm.

So glad the horses decided to keep their winter coats on.

Farm kitty even has some fluffy fur to keep him warm.
The air is so cold that the snow on this bin didn't even slide off when I opened it

The sun is a nice reprieve but I hear we are going to get more snow in the next couple of days.

I'm beginning to think December and January were on vacation and now their trying to play catch up.

It all looks pretty. I bet skiers are happy as well as the kids. Nice little snowblower, it makes clearing the driveway kid's play.
We've had snow since the beginning of November which was earlier than usual for us and we still have lots of snow and I've really had enough already. I'm always afraid of sliding on the ice under the snow and breaking a hip or something. My son in law's brother broke his hip this falling on the ice and he much younger than me and a mountaineer.

Your farm looks so beautiful.
Take care, hugs, Julia

I love every single photo! My goodness! That shoveling is a lot of work! Glad he got an easier tool to get it done!

So beautiful. The animals looks unfazed by it all. Glad you are enjoying it. By about March I'm ready for the warmth.

oh my, men and their TOYS, bob would do the same thing. he left PA in 1960 because he got sick of shoveling snow. if he had had one of these we might not have met. the critters all look happy and the fences are stunning.

Hi Saimi!

Wow!! It really is beautiful, but man, the work that comes with snow is crazy! I always felt so bad for the horses in the winter snow, but I know that they stay nice and warm, same with the kitties. A snowblower is wonderful, and I'm pretty sure your neighbors love it too... ;o) Glad you are all toasty warm!

Hugs and Love,
Barb
