The Insta Cook

I've heard much about and have seen demonstrations on those new Insta Pots. They are pretty amazing and can help whip up a meal in no time.

Although as handy as they are, I haven't invested in one. I guess I'm still in the old school of cooking.

Speaking of which, my sister sent me a Crock Pot recipe for, Slow Cooker Olive Garden Chicken. She prepared it exactly as the recipe instructed and gave me a raving review on how wonderful it smelled and tasted.
She was so convincing I decided to give it a go.

I had everything the recipe called for except the 3-5 hours it took to cook. But what the heck, I went for it anyway.

I put the chicken in a glass baking dish and poured the sauce/seasoning over it then covered it with foil and baked it in the oven.

In less than an hour, the chicken was done and dinner was served.

The husband throughly enjoyed the new recipe so I told him how my sister gave it to me but it was supposed to be cooked in a slow cooker.

He smiled and shook his head and I'm like what?

He said, 'Nothing, I just like how your a get er' done kind of girl. Why take all day when you can make in an hour.

Fast forwarding a couple of days, our son came home for the weekend so I thought it would be nice to give him a home cooked meal.

I didn't plan on anything I just thought I'd look in one of my cook books for a quick recipe.

The one I chose happened to be for chicken as well.

Once again I had all the ingredients but what I didn't have was the 6-8 hours it took to marinate in the refrigerator.

Since it wasn't as quick as I had intended, I decided to eliminate the 6-8 hours of refrigerator time.

The recipe also called for it to be grilled on the BBQ.
Well that wasn't going to happen. We're in the dead of winter with snow falling.

What I ended up doing was baking it in the oven and just before we ate, I transferred the chicken onto the broiler pan and broiled it for a few minutes to give it the BBQ look.

The husband and our son loved it so I confessed it was supposed to marinate for 6-8 hours and then placed on the grill.

The husband just smiled and shook his head once again. Seriously, no words were necessary I knew exactly what he was thinking.

But hey, when your a winger like me, improvising is the most important ingredient there is.

I loved this story and I am the getter done type also, not just with cooking but my whole life. I make my appts in the early am because I want to go and get it done and over with.... the chicken sounds great. I only use my crockpot on Sundays. we get up at 5 and we eat our big meal at 12 noon, today I am laughing, because I have chicken breasts in the crock pot cooking from 5 to 11... getting it done while I sit here typing.

Hi Saimi~

I love it!! You know what, dinner is usually the last thing on my mind. I love a recipe that can be put together and done in an hour or less. I have an electric pressure cooker that I use occasionally, and I like it, but it's not my go-to kitchen gadget. The recipe sounds yummy, I'll have to give it a try!!

Hugs and Love,
Barb

I love your story too and guess what Saimi? I'm doing the same thing as you.
I'm a get-er-done kind of a girl too. I call myself a short order cook. lol...
It taste good and it fills our stomach. It doesn't have to fall apart to eat. That why God gave us teeth so we can chew it, lol... When needed I use my slow cooker if I have to be away for a long stretch of time. I had considered getting a Insta-pot but still haven't invested in one.

Take care, hugs,
Julia

I like using a crockpot but I haven’t tried the insta ones yet. Louis Dean loves pressure cookers so we have three - all different sizes. Whatever works for you is the way to go!
If I could only chose one electric gadget I would pick an electric skillet!
