To clean or not to clean......

I just have to share this.

At the elementary school where I work our lovely custodian is a older man who is past his retirement age. His hips hurt, walking is difficult and bending over is painful. The only reason he is still sloshing the mop is for the insurance benefits. OK so can't fault him there.

It's his cleaning methods that concern me, which has become a pet peeve of mine. The bathrooms never smell clean and he uses the same rag to wipe the toilets, sinks, doors, etc...To top it off, he won't wear gloves. Are you grossed out yet?

Let me continue. Today I walked into the school and the smell of bleach filled the air. What a heavenly smell that was. I couldn't believe it, was Mr. Clean actually cleaning? I caught him in the hall and praised him on how good everything smelled, giving him lots of positive reinforcement.

Later in the day when I went to use the restroom Mr. Clean saw me walking down the hall. Still gleaming he said, "So you like the smell of bleach?" I turned and replied, "Yes I do!" Then he tells me, It's all about presentation. Presentation? I asked.

This is where he decides to confess his little secret. With everyone complaining about his cleaning methods, he put some bleach in a spray bottle and sprayed it around the base of the toilets. He was actually proud of himself for problem solving his lack of sanitizing.

So basically all he did was mask the problem to get the staff off his back. I yi, yi, just a little too much information on his part. Some secrets are meant to stay secret.

i worked as an elementary school janitor with a guy similar to your mr. clean.
they used to get on my case because i took too long cleaning. i just couldn't cut corners. too gross. they wanted me to use the same scrub brush for everything - "just dip the brush in the toilet water and scrub the whole thing real quick."

i can say that he's a brave man. i've never seen anything grosser than third grade bathrooms (except maybe fifth grade bathrooms).

Can I say um, gross! I know a really good cleaning lady but unfortunetly she is already swamped and loving being a stay at home mom to much to go back to work. I really hope this problem get fixed and I hope it is soon for everyone at that schools sake!

Now I have occasionally tricked Travis into thinking I was cleaning all day so that I didn't have to cook dinner and he would take me out. I will fill my sink with Pine Sol and it made my house smell clean. But I clean my house regularly so sneaking that in doesn't cause to much yuck.

Today I am putting Pine Sol in the sink but unfortunately it is to clean :(

I have a sudden desire to go clean my bathrooms! Yuck!
I think I'll say a little prayer this morning for my daughter's elementary school janitor.

He should be reported. The districts have standards - time for him to retire. We employ janitors for the air force base and if they don't clean to standard - they have to do it again or get fired. But these are people with disabilities and they still know what to do! Gramps is just gettin' to tired to swish the toilets. The students are covered in fecal matter, e-coli, and rotovirus. Ew!

Wow, I'm more thankful for our school custodians after reading that blog! They do a terrific job keeping our elementary school ship shape and Mr. Clean!!
