What I loved when I was choosing between him and his brother was the cute little grunting sounds he would make. I used to hold him up to my neck as he snuggled into my hair grunting.
He still makes those cute sounds.
He's never been into doing tricks. He'll sit, maybe when asked, but doesn't really care about the whole, shake, lay down, speak, play dead or anything else we would try to teach him.
He would just stare at you like, 'whats the big deal?'
He won't rough house or play tug-a-war and has even been teased about not being a real dog.
But he's always been my baby. The other dogs we've had were all that. They did the dog things that dogs like to do, but not my Oskar.
Well Oskar is the last dog standing. He's out lived all our other canine companions and isn't slowing down.
The three of us, Oskar, the husband and I have walked 111.9 miles since February. Our quite, calm Schnauzer turns into a speed walker. If it wasn't for his leash, he would leave the two of us in the dust. We seriously have quite a time keeping up with him. You almost have to do a little jog to match his pace.
He doesn't even break stride going up hill and we have hills.
I suppose we never knew this about him because he was never given the opportunity to show us. With so many other dogs we never went on serious walks. You couldn't get away with taking just one and the whole lot of them was like juggling a circus act.
He's now the star of the show, it took us thirteen years to discover his talent but like any good performer, it takes a little patience and perseverance to get to the top.

That's a cute story about Oskar. Who needs a Fitbit with a speed walking dog. I hope he'll still be speed walking for a good number of years yet. He a cutie.
Hugs, Julia
our 13 year old Jake is the same, after the other 3 passed on, he started walking a couple of years ago and loves it, he is also a speed walker, he used to be a speed runner, chasing the ball for hours, but old age he only does a few chases and no jumping in the air. he is also our baby just like Oskar
Oh I just know how you can love Oscar like that - they are such wonderful companions. I love our Disco too.
Oskar is really precious. So happy he is experiencing long walks now with you two. I wish you guys a delightful weekend.
I guess he didn't like the competition..My Mollie is 10 and I sometimes have a hard time keeping up with her..Enjoy these moments...
Hi Saimi~
I love this post... :0) Oscar is adorable, what a sweet face!
My, Cole dog, is 10 years old, and I can see every day that he's not a pup anymore. His hips hurt, and he get more grey hair every week. He doesn't think he's old...he still thinks he's a puppy, a 130 pound puppy!
I guess we just need to love them and snuggle with them while we can! I'm a true believer that all dogs go to heaven!
Hugs and Love,
Barb
