Websitting

"See Grandma, see?"

"I can't see, we need to face time so I know what I'm looking at." We ended our call and I promptly called them back via FaceTime, the worlds best invention for the ever evolving cell phone.

Although only three, the twins know how to maneuver a mobile device better than I.

"Come see Grandma."

I'm being carried into their bedroom where they shut the door, place their tablet on a bed and the only thing I can see is the ceiling. The giggling begins as they jump from one bed to the next.

'See Grandma.'

Yes, yes, I see.! Not really, but once and awhile I'll catch a glimpse of them in motion as they leap from one bed to the next.

Then the toys come out.

'Look Grandma', as they show me each and everyone of their toys.  The next thing I know,  I'm being placed in the microwave of their play kitchen.

'All done'.

I'm cooked to perfection, or so I thought because coming at me is a stethoscope.

'Doctors in' they say laughing and giggling.

My eyes, ears and mouth are checked just before the shot is administered.

Our playtime was interrupted by a phone call so I told the boys I'll call them right back. After a short conversation with my youngest son, I returned to Face time with the boys. This time I took them into my play area and showed them all the toys at Grandmas house.  It was received with a lot of Ooo's and Ahh's.

The tunnel, balls, cars, play food, building blocks, puppets etc. were pulled from the shelves. By the time I had all the toys out it looked as if I was entertaining a houseful of kids. The boys had more fun watching me put my preschool skills into action - I felt like a one man comedy act for children. The best thing about it, I was the only one home with no one there to see how ridiculous I was being. The even better part, the boys were having a blast.

Two hours later the battery on my phone was dangerously low and in the red zone.

'Grandma's got to go now I love you,  say good bye and give me some kisses.'

They tried to keep me on the phone but I didn't want it to just end without a proper goodbye.  Finally with only 4% battery left, I was able to convince them our play time was over.

Once I plugged in the phone I texted their mom and thanked her for letting me have so much time with the guys. She was thrilled to say the least and told me she was cleaning house and thanked me for keeping the boys entertained while she did so.

It was a win, win all around.

I loved this post!! I love Facetime, such a great invention! I wish I would have had it when my kids were little. My parents lived in Arizona most of the year, and they really missed out on so many cute things. My kids were always a little shy around them for the first little while they were back - Facetime would have taken care of that!

Your little's are so adorable!! I can't believe they are three years old!!

Modern technology is amazing isn't it. I love that you got to spend that time interacting with those sweet boys, the next best thing to being there.

Adorable daughter and "grands"...

We never had to do this, because our family has (most always) been here in this city. But it is a wonnnnnnderful thing, for far-away "Nana's" and "Pop's" and "Grands." :-)

Gentle hugs,
Tessa

I look forward to the day when we can have regular webchats with grands -- but first Kevin and Molly have to get the grands going! Your family is adorable!
