The Geriatric Janitor
OK, so you're gonna love this one. This last week at school all the teachers have been switching classrooms. The fifth graders will no longer be considered elementary students and will move up to the middle school as of next year. A few of the teachers in our building will join them. With the available classrooms, the Principal has revamped how he wants the classes to be. To say the least, it's been a crazy week of packing, moving and setting up a new room.
We actually scored in room size. Next year the preschoolers will have a bigger classroom but where it makes up in space, it lacks in storage. We have begged, borrowed and stole to come up with shelving and storage cabinets. Alright, so we haven't actually stole anything, but we did find an old metal bookshelf down in the basement/boiler room. The bookshelf is tall and awkward, especially trying to maneuver it around the big pipes and old desks that once were useful, but now sit collecting dust.
One of the gals I work with came down into the 'chokey' with me to retrieve the bookshelf. Mr. Clean, our geriatric janitor followed us down to see what we were up to. When he saw us trying to lift the shelf, he said, "You girls be careful there." I looked at him and with a smile and a hint of sarcasm I replied, what happened to, "Is there anything I can do to help?" He scoffed, threw up his hands and said, my back is done, I can't lift anything.
He did gather up the shelves that we took out and brought them outside for us, which was nice. Once we moved the bookshelf outside we were going to put it on a dolly cart so we could wheel it into the building and to our class.
Before either of us had a chance to put our end down and get the cart, Mr. Clean grabbed the dolly, put the three light weight shelves on it and strolled off. My co worker and I were flabbergasted, we stared at each other for a moment, then started laughing. Seriously, we couldn't believe what just happened. We giggled all the way back to our class while trying not to drop the bookshelf. Once we were back in our room, the dolly cart sat waiting for us with the three little shelves.

Mr Clean needs to have his retirement party!!!!
Where were you tonight???? Do not let it happen again!!
Believe it or not, I used to be an after school janitor with a guy just like Mr. Clean. He kept losing the keys to the school. Eventually we had one set of keys and I spent half of my time at work walking across the school to get them from the other kid who worked with me. Sounds like he's just there for show, like ours was. ;)
Maybe he just knows how strong you ladies are.
He sounds like a gem!
That's hilarious! Sounds like Mr. Clean needs to spend some time down in the "chokey" alone. Maybe next time he'll be more willing to lend a hand. ;-)
That is so funny!!! I'm laughing out loud because I could see myself running into a situation just like this! Maybe Mr. Clean needs a little Bengay to helps his aches and pains! Are all janitors at schools are geriatric?
Well that was "considerate" of him!
I'm glad you guys laughed instead of getting mad. :)
What a guy.
LOL, oh man. Seriously? That's awesome.
