A barn raising

We have a perfect horse set up. Three lush green pastures for rotating the horses, shelters to shield them from the weather and a huge turn around driveway so I NEVER have to back up the trailer. Backing up the trailer is not a good thing for me, as I, without a doubt, lack the skills in that department. The last time I tried to back up a trailer, I jack knifed it and it hit the side of the truck. Yeah, not good.

The only thing left on my two horse farm is a barn. Not so much for the horses, but to store hay. We've haven't needed hay up to this point but I want to be set for the winter and if a barn is going to be built, we needed to get busy.

We tossed out a few ideas, the husband likes to think big.

We looked around the grounds to see where the best place was to build and finally got started.

I'd love to say all the neighbors came over and helped and their wives brought lunch and homemade pies,

but it wasn't necessary. Instead, it was just the husband and I. Actually it was all pretty much the husband, I was just his lovely assistant, but we got the job done and officially have ourselves a hay barn.

We filled it with four tons of sweet smelling bales of fresh cut hay.

Who needs all the fancy hubba ba loo, certainly not I. I'm more of a practical thinker and lean towards the less grander side of things.

Thanks husband for accommodating me!

Love your creativity!

And I'm drooling over gambrel barns right now. Some day, right? :)

Hey, I'm kinda of your neighbor and have lots of extra hands who would have loved to come help. They would have been in heaven just being able to pet the horses. You should have "hollered".

You see I wish my wife would think like you! I keep telling her 'just a few more years' and we will save up enough to get a 3 ROOM tent and our own CHEMICAL TOILET TOO! 'HAY' whatever works right - my wife and those horses won't know the difference as long as they've got grub over the winter! W.C.C.

Those pictures are great! Your property and all the lovely buildings upon it are terrific, you're living my "dream life," you know you picture yourself living but never will because you're actually scared of horses. :)

I love the first barn :) I can't wait to (one day) have room for, and a need for, a barn. What a wonderful life you have!

Yes I would say you are very practical people and I am sure the horses will enjoy their hay this year just as much as if it came out of a beautiful new barn.
And like a previous commenter, I would have brought a pie AND my husband to help raise a barn for you, it is just a short jaunt over the Cascades to your place afterall.
