We took them down a cute country road which parallels an irrigation ditch on one side and an orchard on the another. I actually love riding this trail because it is so pretty. It amazes me that one can live in the desert and still have the beauty of orchards tucked away amongst sagebrush.
The little ditch bank road ends at the edge of a country town. It took us about an hour to come to the end and with daylight burning I figured we should start heading back but the husband wanted to ride into the town, which happens to house the school where I work as well as a current job site for his business.
I'm glad my horse didn't leave any 'apples' |
After visiting our places of employment he took me to the 'Barrel' for dinner. Such a thoughtful husband as I was getting rather hungry. I've never hear of the 'Barrel,' this small hick town has only one other restaurant that I knew of but hey, I was game if it meant satisfying my hunger pains. Besides, where else can you ride and leave your horse while you dine? We reached the 'Barrel' and hitched up our horses.
Then we were greeted by the chef and the rest of the crew. They brought us our dinner cooked fresh off the grill.
I was so impressed. Not only with the back door style of dining but the tasty food, pretty flowers and most of all, the friendliness of the staff.
We had an amazing meal and I hated to eat and ride but it was either that or break out the head lamps for our journey home because night was drawing near. The horses were anxious to get on the road and kicked it into gear but we didn't quite make it. We were a little over half way when the husband called his friend to meet us with our truck and trailer.
To say the least, It was a very happy sight for the horses and a wonderful Friday night date.

How fun was that? Goin' out riding with your honey, hitchen' up the horses, having dinner. Yes I would call that a very unique date for sure.
You guys are awesome! Horse riding and BBQ. Doesn't get any better.
Now I see why we never saw you come back by. What a fun adventure, almost going back in time. You made my kids day when they saw you riding past. Sage couldn't stop talking about you. Its the little things right!
Hi Saimi :)
What an awesome date! Saves on gas!
What a cute date!
That is the coolest thing I've ever heard!! I love horseback riding. Unfortunately, I'm horribly allergic to horses. And my husband got turned off of riding after a scout outing that left him bow-legged for hours.
Dang!
But I'm so glad you had such an awesome time! Thanks for sharing this sweet story!
That looked fantastic. I have only ridden once with the family to a kind of outdoor bar b que lunch place. It was great fun, but your place looks like the food was MUCH BETTER. Great post and sounds like a great day! W.C.C.
Oh, I love this!!! What a great date!!! And as a city/suburban girl, I love seeing you and your horses strolling past your places of employment - it just makes me laugh!
What a fun weekend date! I got excited at the title, thinking you would be referring to the Cracker Barrel, which is my absolute favorite breakfast joint, but horseback riding and BBQ sounds great too! It looks like you guys had a great time! Thanks for sharing! :)

That's an incredible date! I could easily say that's one I've never been on and probably never will. Very cool!
