Oh Shoot!

Two of my girlfriends and I took our annual trip to the mountains to pick huckleberries. We've been doing this for at least 10 years now. At first we were determined to bring back as many huckleberries as we possibly could pick, but if you have ever picked those little berries you will know it's no easy task.

None the less, we go every year. Not only is it our little tradition but it's a great time to spend hours upon hours chatting. Let's just say, what we talk about in the mountains, stays in the mountains.

This particular day one of the gals had a dream the night before about encountering a bear. She kept mentioning it periodically but truly, there was no bear. I also reassured her I brought protection. I am a proud owner of a small hand gun with a concealed weapons permit. I know how to use it, and wouldn't hesitate if I felt my life was in danger.

There was no danger and our huckleberry picking adventure went off without a hitch. As we were getting ready to leave I expressed my disappointment of not being able to shoot a bear,

Me: "Well girls, I guess I didn't get to shoot a bear today."

Friend #1: "Have you ever shot that before?"

Me: "Of course, do you want to shoot it?"

Friend #1: "Sure, I could use a little excitement."

We all got back out of the car and set up some water bottles as targets. We rested them on an embankment so it would stop the bullets. I went first then friend #1 gave it a try.

Friend #1: BANG! "Wow, that has a kick to it." then handed it to friend #2.

Friend #2: "I'm not shooting that thing."

With some coercing, we talked our reluctant friend into doing a little target practice.

Friend #2 aims at her target and BANG! Slightly frightened she says,"Do you think I killed someone?"

Friend #1 and I both laughed and said, " Are you kidding, we're the only ones up here."

All of a sudden we heard a shot back, it echoed in the hills like it was right down the road from us. Freaked out, we all three looked at each other then scrambled for the car. We jumped in and was headed down the road in one second flat, leaving a dust cloud in our wake. We kept giggling a nervous giggle wondering who was returning the fire.

I guess we'll never know, maybe the other person was just shooting at a bear...ya think?

Oh heavens, that is so funny. I would love to have been out of sight watching all three of you diving for the car. No need for the bears to be scared of the gun, it's the car they would need to get out of the way of. Teeheee, silly girls.

We were going to go hucklberry picking yesterday but the weather forcast was calling for rain. Last year it rained when we went picking and we didn't want to repeat that again. I agree with you, they are delish and worth the picking.

cute story!! Made me smile and want to giggle along with you girls. I've shot a gun before. Not really my thing but huge kudos to you for owning one! Wish I was that hard core.

I have never picked huckleberries. I don't think I've ever even eaten them! I've had the jam though. Yummy.

OMG!!!! As a little suburban girl - I'm probably the furthest person who would have been there 1)in the mountains, 2)setting up water bottles as targets to shoot and 3)wishing to shoot a bear!!! You are just about the coolest lady I know, ma'am!!! And while I would have been SCREAMING there (heck, I was screaming last month when I went fishing for the first time in my life - could you imagine me if I came even remotely close to a bear???), we would have had lots of laughs my friend!!! Funny story here, for sure!

Oh my goodness! Where are you from that you pick huckleberries?? I thought that was indigenous to my area only.

You look totally Charlies Angels by the way.

Oh, you won some chocolates on my blog.

You're a little dangerous...I think that's why Ken loves you so much!

HA! Too funny. I'm wondering if the other shooter was thinking that you were shooting "for help". Sort of signaling back and forth. I can honestly say, that's the first pink gun I've ever seen. We live in a concealed carry state, and I'm thankful. I don't personally carry one, but to me, it makes people stop and think.. if you know what I mean.

Love that pink gun! I keep trying to convince hubby to buy me one like that! I just have to shoot the plain, boring blackone when we go to the range...

I've never, ever shot a gun...I didn't know they came in pink, though! Maybe I'll give it a try sometime. :D

Oh my goodness! I don't even like READING this story, let alone actually shooting a gun! Freaky deaky. I don't like the idea at all. Hooray for girls' days out! And also, I didn't realize huckleberries actually exist. Don't judge. I guess I'm a city girl.

I am dying laughing here... that entire story cracked me up! (Thanks for stopping by from Cheeseboy's - so glad to have found you!)

I spent a long weekend hanging out with GunDiva and she writes for Girls With Guns... she would love your story too!

And the first time I went shooting with my husband... let's just say that a shell went where it didn't belong. And I blogged about it, LOL.

Thanks for the laughs!
