Queen of the Road

Ever since we brought Jaycee home I keep pinching myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. I love this mare, she is so sweet and a joy to ride. She loves to explore and approaches scary objects with curiosity instead of the normal horse mentality which is to bolt.

It wasn't long before the husband decided to get a horse as well. Talk about romantic! Now we can ride and putter around the barn together, I never would have thought I'd see the day, but I'm not complaining, heaven just keeps getting better and better.

We brought the husbands gelding home, Bailey. Another Tennessee Walker with a flashy look, man that horse is beautiful! Although, Jaycee wasn't so impressed and didn't waste anytime letting this new intruder know who the pasture boss is. With ears flat back and a squeal Baily learned quick not to mess with Jaycee. But out on the trail, the two do rather well together. I was showing the husband where I had been riding, which happens to be his mountain bike trails. Jaycee was her normal perky self, walking her Tennessee walk, ears forward and happy to be out. Bailey followed enjoying the ride as well. As we got into the trails a littler further, the husband took the lead as he knows them better than I. This is his biking ground and he can ride these trails blind folded. Bailey and Ken pulled ahead and kept going. Jaycee, on the other hand, started pitching a fit. She was ancy, dancy, and getting all excited. Arching her neck, hopping along and really working up a sweat. As for the husband and Bailey...They kept right on a going, totally unaware that we were way behind. I finally got it through the dancing mares head the more she continued to tantrum, the further away they were getting and I moved her along until we caught up. Once Jaycee was, either side by side with Bailey, or in front of him she was fine, walking along as if nothing had happened, but man she does not like being in the back!

I can tell I have my work cut out for me. To be a good trail horse, Jaycee is going to have to learn that it is OK to pull up the rear once in a while, which means more riding time....I tell ya, it's a tough job, but someone has to do it!
