Toto

It was a dark and stormy night....OK, so it wasn't stormy, but it was dark and it was Halloween. Out where we live only the brave will tackle our col de sac at night, especially with a German Shepard dog barking at the scary trick or treater's. 16 courageous souls made it to our door and lived to tell about it. Since we never get but a handful of trick or treater's, I usually buy the really good candy, something the kids would never expect, nor forget. It's my way of assuring they might come back the next year.

Among the families that came, all dressed in Halloween attire, was one in particular who came in the Wizard of Oz theme. Each child was a character, there was the Tin man, the Good witch Glinda, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and of course, Dorothy. Dorothy was the three year old chatter box who isn't intimidated by anything. She was so cute dressed in the blue and white plaid dress, white shirt and sparkling red shoes with her hair divided into two cute ponytails.

After the initial trick or treat, we invited the family from Oz in to visit. The children were exploring the house while we talked with our friends. Little "Dorothy" went downstairs and saw our three house dogs in the family room behind a gate. We kept the dogs enclosed so they wouldn't jump or run out every time someone came to the door. The three little dogs are a Beagle, Miniature Schnauzer and a small terrier.

"Dorothy shrieked with delight when she saw our terrier, "Toto, I found Toto!"

The husband went downstairs and brought up our Jimmy, of course we called him Toto and Dorothy couldn't get enough of him. It was the cutest thing ever and I still giggle to myself every time I think of her smiling face thinking she had found the dog from Kansas.
